Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - MMP Geriatric Medicine

Position Summary (New Grads Welcome to Apply)

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing primary care services, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating and educating patients. Works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care. This person will work in the nursing home setting providing care to post-acute and long term care patients. The PA or NP will work with a team of geriatricians and other APPs in a shared patient model.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Current NP/PA license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure.

  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

  • BLS certification required.

  • Two years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience preferred but not required.

  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with staff physicians, nursing and allied health professionals, other hospital faff and patients. Act as a liaison between medical and other staff.

  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status, including state of wellness and compliance with care recommendations.

  • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking and other organizational matters.

  • Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of NP/PA Practice.

  • Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner.

  • Strong computer skills with skill in using computerized health information management system.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

This is an opportunity to join our well respected team in the Neurosurgery group supporting 12 Surgeons and working alongside 15 Advance Practice Providers (APPs) providing surgical, emergency, and in-patient care and services including ER consultations, hospital admissions, first assisting on Neurosurgical cases, and medical management of in-patients with daily rounds.</p><p>Primary inpatient responsibilities are at Maine Medical Center, the state's leading tertiary care hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center.
