Position Summary

Maine Medical Partners Geriatric Medicine Practice is looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work in a co-management model with an attending internal medicine physician as consultant providers to the attending physiatrists. This position is based at NERH. Responsible for providing primary care services, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating and educating patients. Works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Current NP or PA license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure.

  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

  • BLS certification required.

  • Two years of NP/PA experience preferred.

  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with staff physicians, nursing and allied health professionals, other hospital staff and patients. Act as a liaison between medical and other staff.

  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status, including state of wellness and compliance with care recommendations.

  • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking and other organizational matters.

  • Ability to make responsible decisions within scope of NP Practice.

  • Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner.

  • Strong computer skills with skill in using computerized health information management system.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Practitioners are responsible for admissions, daily rounding, acute visits and discharges of patients as well as ordering and interpreting laboratory data. All are done in conjunction with collaborating attending and consulting physicians.
