Working in a correctional setting as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is an opportunity to work with an under-served population with a broad scope of practice. You will treat patients who are acutely ill (Stomach Ache, Broken Bone) as well as patients with chronic care conditions (Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma). If you are confident in your skills (or would like to sharpen them) and prefer to work somewhat autonomously, then corrections may be the area you are seeking. Correctional health care is delivered in highly secured clinical settings alongside a team of other healthcare professionals.
