We have an exceptional opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our healthcare team at Detroit Re-Entry Correctional Facility located in Detroit.

Qualifications of the Corizon Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant:

Graduate of an accredited college/university nurse practitioner or physician assistant program with current certification /licensure in the State of Michigan.

Maintains an active CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification.

Responsibilities of the Corizon Health Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant:

Corizon Health Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants utilize the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with an ambulatory care as their primary focus. Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants work with a variety of healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.

Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants also

Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies throughout the facility

Identify patient health problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician

Implement medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a physician

Provide education to patient, healthcare and correctional staff

Document all healthcare contacts

Adhere to safety and security policies and participate in disaster drills

Follow security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications

Delegate to and supervise other team members as appropriate

Adhere to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices

Prepares, develops and initiates pre/peri/post operative treatment plans for the patients in consultation with attending and consulting physicians. Develops patient care and writes medication and other orders as prescribed by law. Performs as first and second surgical assistant in the operating room, during surgery cases. Participates in the pediatric heart transplant program including transplant call (first and second call), travel and participation in organ harvesting and assisting in the actual transplant. May perform endoscopic vein harvesting May perform and obtain consent for routine invasive procedures, including but not limited to, median sternotomy, close median sternotomy, insert venous and arterial lines, insert chest tubes and peritoneal catheters, insert nasogastric tube and foley catheter and remove pleural tubes, mediastinal tubes, peritoneal catheters, transthoracic lines, central lines and arterial lines May assist the operating room staff to facilitate timely start/completion of cases. Prepares discharge summaries, as assigned. Responds to emergencies; initiates treatment until relieved of duties by a physician. Educates and counsels patient and family members on condition, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery, and other related areas. Conducts and documents patient rounds Works with medical records and billing departments, as needed, to help ensure completeness and accuracy. The nurse practitioner and physician assistant obtain privileges to practice within the Detroit Medical Center as Allied Health Professional through the Detroit Medical Center Medical Staff Organization, according to internal and external rules and regulations GENERAL DUTIES 1.���Obtains and records complete medical history of patient.* 2.�� Performs physical examinations, documents results and assists with pre-admission testing for the patients as well as post-operative patient follow-up in the outpatient clinic setting.* 3.�� Orders, evaluates and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans, including laboratory tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, blood products and interdisciplinary consults in collaboration with the attending physician or designee and according to established guidelines.* 4.���Prepares, develops and initiates treatment plan for preoperative, perioperative and postoperative patients in consultation with attending and consulting physicians.* 5.���Develops care and writes medication and other orders, as prescribed by law.* 6.���Performs as first and second surgical assistant in the operating room, during all surgery cases Participates in the pediatric heart transplant program including transplant call (first and second call), travel and participation in organ harvesting and assisting in the actual transplant.
