The Nurse practitioner practices in collaboration with the attending physician as direct healthcare providers.# Responsibilities include working with patients and families to coordinate the delivery of care throughout hospitalization.# This is done by assessing, diagnosing, treating, educating and consulting through regular and/or crisis intervention. The General Surgery NP provides consultation and support# for patients and families throughout the medical-surgical units, the Emergency Department, Clinical Decision Unit and ICU.

Each General Surgery NP is cross-trained to provide comprehensive cross-coverage for multiple surgical services within one year of employment. This includes, but is not limited to: bariatric, colorectal, plastics, thoracic, urology, and vascular surgery. Job requirements:

Required:

Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.# Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in Adult, Family Practice or Specialty area in New York State.# Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.# Minimum of two (2) years of experience in acute care nursing.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at the time of hire of within two (2) weeks after hire.# Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required at the time of hire or within three (3) months after hire.# AHA Stroke Certification part A required within one (1) month of employment; part B required within six (6) months of hire date.

Preferred:

Previous critical care experience.# Master#s Degree in Nursing or equivalent.# Certification in a specialty area. #
