Job Summary

The Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Nurse Practitioner to join the cardiac catheterization team. Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care Functions:

1.Assesses the physical condition of patients before and after cardiac catheterization by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.

2.Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.

3.Works closely with catheterization physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.

4.Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.

5.Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.

6.Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.

7.Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.

8.Coordinates care for patients at Primary Children's Hospital and the University of Utah Hospital.

9.May be called upon to assist with catheterization procedures at PCH and the U of U.

10.May be called upon to see clinic patients along with a catheterization physician when available.

Administrative Functions:

1.Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.

2.May be involved in initiating changes and training other providers on the electronic medical record.

3.Participates in quality improvement activities.

4.Oversees patient identification and follow up of several ongoing clinical device trials.

5.Participates in catheterization lab data collection for research studies.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.

Often: Infectious disease, oils ( there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids ), hazards ( includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals ).

Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner as required under State Law.

Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area; and demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills are required.

Utah State prescriptive privileges preferred.

Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
