Job Description: Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner

Position Title: Nurse Practitioner

Reports To: Medical Director

Supervises: N/A

Entry Level Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Nursing.

• Holds a current license in good standing in the State as an NP.

• 2+ years experience in a behavioral health, mental health, or psychiatric facility.

• Complete TB testing upon being hired.

• Complete and be within the requirements of Background and Drug screening results.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand continuously in increments of 45 minutes to 1 hour.

• Must be able to physically assist a disoriented or intoxicated patient of average weight of 140-170 lbs from the floor to a chair or bed.

General Responsibilities:

• Plan and implement primary care service delivery to patients per healthcare plan and written protocols.

• Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary care, including counseling and referral within a multidisciplinary team.

• Work under the direction of the psychiatrist to perform assessments, medication management, evaluation, and ongoing treatment of clients.

• Adhere to the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, "Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records"; and 45 CFR "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act". This position has unrestricted access to patient health information.

Essential Functions:

• Evaluate and assess medical issues, behavioral health problems, comorbid conditions, and/or the need for detoxification.

• Consult with the psychiatrist and behavioral health staff in designing treatment plans for clients.

• Document patient information on medical charts and follow physician's written orders.

• Assist clients with understanding emotional disturbances and accept the need for treatment.

• Administer and document patient reaction to psychotropic drugs and other medications.

• Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments under the guidance of the Medical Director.

• Monitor the effectiveness of clinical interventions.

• Assist in the development and implementation of a treatment plan related to detoxification and/or any other medical issues.

• Monitor clients and maintain a safe, protective environment for the clients.

• Develop positive, supportive relationships with all clients.

• Assist clients in developing and implementing healthy lifestyle programs.

• Implement treatment plan interventions as needed for physical health.

• Participate in and required performance improvement plans.

• Utilize all available means to communicate effectively and efficiently with the treatment team.

• Complete medical/nursing documentation according to licensing standards.

• Keep thorough and current documentation on all clients.

• Stay informed regarding current drug abuse and treatment information.

• Work closely with the entire treatment team, including the program psychiatrist, in providing and coordinating treatment for all clients.

• Assist in providing medical and clinical information for concurrent reviews or other insurance matters.

• Provide educational lectures to clients and families on medical aspects of substance use disorders.

• Perform all other duties as assigned.
