Overview and Responsibilities
To assist physician(s) in providing quality professional and knowledgeable medical care to NEA patients. To triage patients and prepare them for physician exam.
Call patients, pharmacies, lab, x-ray and other physicians to follow-up on behalf of clinic physician. Assist physician with admissions of and follow-up on hospitalized patients or patients that have undergone surgical procedures. To assist physician with follow-up appointments and medical care education.
Assist surgeon with surgical procedures. The ability to prescribe specified levels of medications. To function in the capacity of a para-professional.
High school education and completion of an accredited college nursing program (2 4 years). Completion all required courses and the passing of the nursing exam to obtain a nursing license from the State of Arkansas. One to two years of actual hands on experience either through nursing program or in a medical care facility. Six months mentorship with physician before obtaining prescriptive privileges, national certification and 20 hours of continuing education every four years to maintain certification.
