Responsibilities

Ascension Saint Agnes is looking for a highly skilled and compassionate APRN Nurse Practitioner to join our bariatric surgery team.

As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide specialized care to patients undergoing bariatric surgery procedures. Your role will encompass preoperative and postoperative care, focusing on optimizing patient outcomes and promoting long-term wellness.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, including patient history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests, to determine surgical candidacy and develop individualized care plans.

  • Educate patients and their families about the bariatric surgery process, including potential risks, benefits, and lifestyle changes necessary for success.

  • Collaborate with surgeons, dietitians, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate multidisciplinary care and ensure holistic patient support.

  • Oversee postoperative care, including wound management, pain control, and nutritional support, while monitoring for complications and promoting rapid recovery.

  • Provide ongoing follow-up care to monitor patients' progress, address concerns, and adjust treatment plans as needed to achieve optimal weight loss and health outcomes.

  • Offer counseling and support to patients struggling with adherence to dietary and lifestyle recommendations, addressing barriers and providing resources for long-term success.

  • Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and outcomes accurately and efficiently in electronic medical records, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality metrics.

  • Stay current with advances in bariatric surgery, obesity management, and related fields through continuing education, conferences, and professional development activities.

Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Required Credential(s):

  • Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Maryland Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.

  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Maryland Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.

Preferred Credential(s):

  • Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration. Verified by local Credentialing Office.

Education:

  • Master's degree of Nursing required.

Additional Preferences

  • Certification as a Bariatric Nurse Practitioner preferred, or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner, preferably in bariatric surgery, general surgery, or a related specialty.

  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to formulate and implement evidence-based treatment plans.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and other healthcare technology platforms.

  • Dedication to providing patient-centered care, with empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with flexibility to adapt to changing patient needs and clinical priorities.
