Salary Range: $55,946 to $78,721 / Per Year Open Period: 1/1/2021 to 12/31/2021 Summary:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized Experience GS-07: assess and care for the nursing needs of ER patients and other types of patients as assigned; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients; plan with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department.

Specialized Experience GS-09: Provides professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients; knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implantation of life saving procedures; providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and identifies disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required. OR; Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing.

Specialized Experience GS-10: Independently perform professional nursing duties in the care of surgical patients following extensive and complex surgery or other patients whose critical conditions warrant intensive care; certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Overserves and assesses patient's clinical condition; recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious situations and immediately decides proper action, for example, call physician or take preplanned emergency measures; Recognize emergency situations when a physician is not present or immediately available, initiates appropriate measures, for example, takes resuscitative measure in case of cardiac or respiratory arrest; Use specialized equipment such as monitoring ventilator devices, hypothermic units; Record information on patients' chart and maintain accurate records of intake and output; Administers prescribed medication; Act as a preceptor and provide instruction and direction to lower level trainee nurses. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Licensure Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photo static copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained. Additional Requirements for Grades GS-4 and Above Experience Qualifying experience includes nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as: Providing pre- and post-operative patient care. Observing, recording, and reporting changes in behavior of mentally ill patients. Providing reassurance and encouragement to mentally ill patients. Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients. Setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus. For GS-4: 6 months of nursing experience is required. For GS-5 and above: 1 year of nursing experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level is required. OR Education/Training For GS-4: Successful completion of a program in practical nursing of a least 9 months' duration combined with 1 year of nursing assistant experience; or successful completion of a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing. EXAMPLE OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THE GS-05: Performs Licensed Practical Nurse duties in the care of general medical, surgical, pediatrics patients. Knowledge of a wide variety of moderately difficult procedures requiring licensure as a practical nurse and broad work experience that demonstrates skill sufficient to resolve problems with responsibility for carrying out assignments. EXAMPLE OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THE GS-06: Assists other health care providers in providing care and maintaining a safe and quality care environment. Collects data on the health status of the patient using established assessment skills to identify immediate health care/maintenance and nursing needs. Provides instruction to patients on basic procedures, use of equipment, collection of lab specimens, etc. Documents observations, measurements, nursing interventions and outcomes for assigned patients in the medical record using approved forms and formats.
