Miami Cancer Institute Oncology Nurse Navigators serve as a liaison between patients, families, and their care team. This role is part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary cancer support team including social work, nutrition, psychiatry/psychology, cancer rehabilitation and exercise physiology, pastoral care, and complementary therapy. Each Nurse Navigator specializes in a primary disease site or population (i.e. hematology, lung/thoracic, pediatrics) and collaborates with the disease-specific clinical team.
The Oncology Nurse Navigator supports patient progression through the cancer continuum, enhancing patient experience and outcomes, by providing:
Referrals targeted at reducing barriers to care,
Expert oncologic patient/family teaching,
Ongoing emotional support
The nurse navigator participates in a culture of evidence-based cancer care by monitoring clinical outcomes and participating in performance improvement and evidence-based practice projects.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Certificate in oncology or navigation
3 years of oncology clinical experience
1 year of prior experience in Nurse Navigation or specific tumor site
Experience in varied Electronic Medical Record systems
