Provides emergency room-like triage evaluation and management to women presenting to the Women's Pavilion OB Evaluation area, as well as midwifery care to women in the Labor and Delivery Unit and Outpatient clinics. Participates in the care of these women and collaborates with obstetricians and gynecologists, other nurse midwives, residents in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and other members of the health care team. Follows accepted guidelines for the practice of nurse midwifery at Franklin Square Medical Center.
Graduation from an accredited school of Nurse-Midwifery.
1 year clinical nurse midwife experience.
ACNM or ACC certification. License in the State of Maryland. CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic computer skills preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assesses and evaluates patients and develops, recommends, and/or implements, a plan of care for obstetrical and gynecological patients in accordance with accepted departmental guidelines.
Assists in the development, implementation, and revision of nurse midwifery protocols and standards of care.
Completes history, physical examinations, laboratory tests, and fetal monitoring and other diagnostic tests as appropriate. Communicates findings to collaborating, supervising, and/or private obstetrician/gynecologists.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Documents all clinical care and procedures performed in a thorough manner, ensures that documentation occurs immediately after patient encounters, and ensures compliance with hospital policies for medical record documentation. Documents information to be used for patient billing in accordance with department and hospital standards.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and committees. Participates in meetings and on committees as requested, and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Provides other nurse midwifery care within the scope of nurse midwife practice. Initiates emergency care as needed.
Provides patient care in the women's pavilion including ordering and evaluating diagnostic tests and managing of obstetrical and gynecological complications. Works in collaboration with supervising and/or private obstetrician/gynecologists. Collaborates with the health care team in planning and implementing care for obstetrical and gynecological patients.
Seeks consultation according to nurse midwifery protocols from all members of the health care team involved in patient care and makes appropriate referrals. Provides consultation services as required by the health care team.
