Coordinates activities within the hospital including assisting with staffing, patient flow and coordination of hospital activities. Assists as directed in data collection and monitoring aspects of patient care. Acts as a resource person for nursing staff and also for other departments within the hospital as indicated. Manages situations that arise in the hospital.

Responsibilities
Leadership
- Monitors care given by appropriate team members in accordance with patient needs and the team member's professional capabilities and qualifications.
- Assists in creating a positive work environment by the mentoring of staff/students and working with team members to facilitate initiatives that strive for positive outcomes in quality and care of patients.
- Reliable attendance is an expectation.
- Coordinates patient flow and placement to coordinate with staff availability.
- Identifies problem situations, develops and implements effective decisions.
Pharmacy-IV
- Prepare/Mix IV solutions
- Follows physicians' orders for appropriate medications and concentration
- Demonstrates appropriate aseptic technique
- Understands and follows standard dilutions and preparation procedures
- Utilizes on call pharmacist as a resource for drug information/order clarification
Surgery Call in Duties
- Responsible for surgery scheduling after hours and on weekends and holidays
- Works directly with physicians to schedule surgeries
- Calls surgery staff that are needed after hours, weekends and holidays
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

Education:
Graduate from an approved nursing program
BSN preferred
Experience:
3 years clinical experience
2 years of critical care experience preferred
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current Iowa Registered Nursing License.
Basic Life Support Certification upon hire.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 45 days of hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification within 45 days of hire.
Completion of eight hours of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually
Must be CPI/MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment (renewal every 2 years).
