JOB PURPOSE: Practices professional nursing under the direction of a physician and supervision of the Medical Director.

Serves as Nurse Manager for Spindletop Center. Clinically supervises the activities and delivery of health care services for licensed and non licensed nursing personnel in accordance with established standards of the Nurse Practice Act, accepted Medical/Nursing Standards, the Joint Commission, and Associated Standards approved by state and local regulatory agencies. Is responsible for the implementation of current service delivery standards to consumers as established in the Policy and Procedures of Spindletop Center.

Functions as Infection Control Nurse for Spindletop Center, including coordination of administration of employee vaccines and supervision and coordination of bio-hazardous waste services. Monitors medication storage to ensure safety and adherence to standards. May perform nursing duties in the absence of a Center nurse. Responsible for developing, reviewing and revising medical/nursing policies as necessary to maintain clinical standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Graduate of an approved school of Professional Nursing.

Experience must include three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse providing services to the persons with mental illnesses or intellectual or other developmental disabilities. One year of experience as a Director of Nursing or Nurse Manager preferred.

DEGREE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED (IF APPLICABLE): Valid Texas license for a registered nurse issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners.


Current State of Texas Drivers License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Center's liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business.

Must be willing to work longer or irregular work hours. Work involves travel between clinics and job sites to provide supervision.

Must complete all CORE training requirements in month in which they are due. Completes all Center trainings within 60 days of employment and maintains compliance with annual center training requirements.

This is a Monday-Friday 8:30a-5p position with no weekends, call or major holidays. Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse (RN) II provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group. * Assist physicians in clinic, phone triage, injections, bone marrow assistance, chart checks, etc. * Assess and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician. * Assists physician with exams and procedures. * Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow. * Demonstrates knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture. * Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems. * Documents all elements of care. * Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or mid level provider. * Serves as a resource person to the medical assistants and LPNs. * Triages patient/family phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart. * Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching. * Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary. * Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed. * Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen. * Maintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities. * Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations. -Maintains patient confidentiality. * Serves as mentor/preceptor and provides day to day guidance to less experienced nurses. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred * Minimum of 3 years nursing experience, preferably in an oncology environment * Current or pending Oncology certification preferred * Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer is preferred * Current RN state license with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state * Current CPR certification required PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
