POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse Manager is responsible for facilitating nursing service objectives, policies, procedures and standards of care within the assigned Nursing Department. The Nurse Manager has the responsibility and authority to make decisions and allocate resources which provide safe, appropriate and effective patient care and unit operation. # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Must have a State of Connecticut unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse. Bachelors# in Nursing is preferred but not required.


EXPERIENCE:


Must have a minimum of three years experience in clinical nursing, long term care and geriatric expertise is highly desirable. Develops new treatment programs for unit specific population in conjunction with appropriate facility resources. Effectively advises, consults or counsels patients and/or families discussing difficult issues requiring tact and professionalism. Knowledge of and implements OBRA and State requirements. Develops and monitors employee competencies in collaboration with staff development and assists with orientation and training based on feed back from preceptors/educating new individuals. Oversees daily clinical operation of the nursing units and consistently evaluates and addresses issues recognized by observation and auditing of practice and documentation. Analyses trends through feedback and QA data and develops plan of action to implement. Manages unit operations by coordinating, planning and directing the activities of the professionals and ancillary nursing personnel on the assigned unit according to establish standards of nursing practice and policies and procedures of Woodlake at Tolland. Updates the Nursing Director of serious situations/concerns in a timely manner and facilitates cooperative and collaborative problem solving planning with other managers, physicians, and interdisciplinary departments; a role model for others. Provides direction to staff when unusual patient care or unit management issues, which have no established policies or procedures, need to be addressed. Utilizing available resources including an interdisciplinary approach.
