Manager, Critical Care & Dialysis Services

SUMMARY: The Manager of Critical Care and Dialysis is a registered professional nurse leader who has 24 hour accountability and responsibility for the patient care delivered in the intensive care and dialysis unit. This nurse manager holds staff accountable for the delivery of safe, fiscally responsible, and high quality nursing care through an integration of leadership that is closely woven through business skills and principles, communication and relationship building, knowledge of the health care environment, and professionalism. The ideal candidate actively solicits feedback, recognizes the contribution of mental models on behavior, and understands that leadership begins from within. They are capable of learning from failures and successes, recognize the role of belief, values, and influences on decision making, and remain curious and eager to explore. They seek coaching and mentorship from others, develop personal and professional career plans, measure progress and respond appropriately to the career opportunities before them. They believe that nurse managers are a life-long learner, participate in professional organizations, maintain nursing competency, and value national certification. As a people manager, they also prioritize self-care health behaviors through daily practices and routines, and practice healthy work-life integration.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communication & Relationship Management; Relationship management, influencing behaviors, effective communication

  • Knowledge of the health care environment; Nursing practice & application, regulation, economics & policy, evidenced based practice (EBP), patient safety & quality

  • Leadership; Systems & complex adaptive thinking, decision making, change management, diversity, belonging, & inclusion, transformation & innovation

  • Professionalism; professional accountability, promotion of culturally competent care with regard to health equity & social determinants of health, organizational accountability, governance support

  • Business Skills & Principles; Financial management, human resource management, strategic management

DIRECT REPORTING LEADERS:

  • Assistant Nurse Manager, Intensive Care Unit

  • Assistant Nurse Manager, Dialysis Unit

  • Clinical Educator, Critical Care & Dialysis Services

  • ICU Team Leaders & Charge Nurses

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) with 5 years of acute care RN experience OR

  • Associates of Science in Nursing (ASN) with 8 years of acute care RN experience & commitment to complete the BSN within 3 years of Manager start date

  • RN License in the State of New York

  • Minimum of 3 years as a nurse in a critical care environment

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Charge Nurse, Team Leader, or Supervisor

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous nurse manager or assistant nurse manager experience

  • Nursing certification in acute care, critical care, or dialysis nursing

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 pounds), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Onsite at Cayuga Medical Center

  • Currently no ICU or dialysis services at Schuyler Hospital (collaborate as requested)

Pay Rate $45.67 to $55.29
