Job Summary Utilize sophisticated medical equipment to monitor the vital signs of patients in their unit. Work with physicians to develop treatment plans for patients in the telemetry unit, and supervise the work of licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants who provide basic patient care.

Demonstrates competency when calculating and preparing medications for assigned patients. Ability to function as a cohesive member of a team and demonstrated appropriate interaction with employees throughout the hospital. Able to adjust to peaks in workload; demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to change in a positive and cooperative manner.

Ability to complete assignments in designated time frame. Ability to actively participate in inter or intra departmental performance improvement. Knowledge, skill, and ability to utilize the following Safe Lift Equipment:

Viking, Sabina, Ergo slide, Hoyer lifts, and Golvo. Gait belts, vital signs machine, and weighing scales. Telemetry monitors and screens.# Primary Duties and Responsibilities Functions autonomously when assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care needs and revises plan of care as needed.

Respect and support rights of all patients and ensure patients confidentiality.

Able to read, interpret, and execute physician#s orders for assigned patients.

Demonstrates skill and knowledge to analyze and interpret basic to advanced cardiac rhythms information and able to apply necessary information towards their scope of practice.

Assess telemetry rhythms on cardiac monitors and chose appropriate course of action. Competently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation of hospital records. Administers medication per policy.

Monitors effects of medications and observes patient response; knowledgeable regarding actions and side effects. Demonstrated knowledge in calculating and preparation of cardiac medications (i.e. anti-arrhythmia infusion, intravenous anti-coagulant, dobutamine/dopamine infusion). Effectively utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of patient care as defined in divisional and unit specific standards. Problems are identified, prioritized, and communicated to physician.

Contributes to the overall operation of the unit by actively participating in activities such as: charge RN duties, preceptor for new staff, committee work, performance improvement, and special projects. Completes divisional and unit-specific competencies as required. Participates in continuing education classes and in-services.

Functions as a team member to organize and prioritize responsibilities to complete daily work requirements. Able to communicate and provide basic health care teachings/instructions for patients and family members. Must maintain certifications and nursing licensure in accordance to their practice.

Responsible in delegating tasks to unlicensed personnel. Supervise the performance of the LPN#s, CNA#s, and Nurse Technicians. Perform other duties as assigned as related.

Monitors associates' health to protect patient sand associates, and to prevent injury and illness. Serves as clinical liaison between associates, physicians, other care-givers, insurance companies/administrators for Worker's Compensation, and temporary modified duty program. Works collaboratively with the Occupational Health Team. * Minimum Qualifications * Education/Training * Bachelor's Degree or comparable experience required. BSN preferred. * * Experience * 3 years nursing experience; occupational health experience preferred. * * License/Certification/Registration * Valid RN license in the State of Maryland or DC. Basic Life Support certification. Certification in Occupational Health nursing is preferred. * * Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Good physical assessment skills, triage, and first aid skills. Understanding of workers compensation and OSHA regulations. Good patient education skills. Strong communication skills and intermediate computer skills. * Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. * Accurately documents all data into the associate electronic medical record (OHM). Accesses documents in other appropriate databases. Provides timely and complete data entry and includes all required information based on Occupational Health practice standards. * Collaborates with NP/PA, Risk Management, WC TPA, and medical providers to monitor the progress of case management in terms of established outcomes to coordinate treatment plan, insure appropriate referrals and authorizations are obtained and optimum care and case management is achieved. * Develops, plans, recommends and helps implement wellness programs to improve the health and work-life balance of associates. * Implements health compliance programs required for hospital workers as identified by federal, state and policy guidelines. Programs include but are not limited to: mandatory influenza program, N95 fit testing, hearing conservation, TB testing and vaccination requirements. * Liaises with entities/departments to evaluate safety of workplace and collaborates with managers in injury prevention measures and departmental action planning. * Manages the temporary modified duty program to ensure safe and timely return to work. Evaluates associates ability to return to work full-duty or in modified work capacity after extended absence. Assesses work capability given reason for absence and job responsibilities. Consults with NP/PA as needed. * Performs assessment of associates reporting work injuries not requiring treatment or follow-up. Provides appropriate first aid and report review. * Performs pre-employment physical to determine the ability of the individual to perform the job for which they are applying. Screens for infectious disease symptoms, serious medical conditions or disabilities (except DC). Counsels individual patients regarding exam findings, abnormal lab results, the appropriate follow-up, any implications for personal health and the impact on job performance. Consults with NP/PA as needed. * Prepares and administers medications, including vaccinations and tuberculosis skin testing according to department policy/procedure. Manages medication and medical supply inventory. Orders supplies based on need and appropriate par levels in a fiscally responsible manner. * Provides exposure follow-up including appropriate labwork, first aid, and/or prophylaxis administration. Provides necessary exposure counseling and inform associate of necessary exposure follow-up. Consults with NP/PA as needed. * Provides oversight and compliance tracking for mandatory substance abuse monitoring with NP/PA as needed. * Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
