The Shift Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief Nurse Executive and is responsible for the after-hours operation of campus based nursing services. This position encompasses multiple responsibilities which include: management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, development of nursing personnel, ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards, and other hospital policies and procedures.

Ensures program specific staffing plans are met and initiates action to reassign staff to accomplish same when program interventions have failed. Serves as a consultant, and clinical and administrative expert to all staff afterhours. Ensures unusual incidents or significant events are communicated to the AOD, MOD, Assistant Chief Nurse Executive and Nurse Manager, when applicable.

Provides, leadership, management, and coordination of emergency drills and response to actual emergency situations. Is responsible to support the management of staff and patient exposures, injuries, reasonable suspicion testing, etc.

Acts as a point of contact and resource to internal and external customers, such as the Department of Family and Regulatory Services, law enforcement, etc.

As a member of the Nursing Clinical Operations Team, participates in nursing policy development and decision-making. Serves in the capacity of a Clinical RN I as assigned, or as needed.

This position has extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Must understand that duties, location of work and shift patterns are subject to change, as determined by administration, to meet the needs of the hospital.

The Shift Coordinator has no financial responsibility but is accountable for assigned property and appropriate allocation of human resources.

Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

1.Is responsible for afterhours, nursing operations and the delivery of quality patient care.

2.Ensures program specific staffing plans are met according to nursing policies and procedures.

3.Serves as a subject matter expert and consultant to all clinical and administrative staff.

4.Acts as a point of contact and resource to external customers, such as the Department of Family and Protective Services, regulatory agencies, law enforcement, etc.

5.Coordinates emergency drills and response to actual emergency situations.

6.Serves as a member of the Nursing Clinical Operations Team and other appointed hospital committees and workgroups.

7.Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities as assigned.

8.Provides in-service training as assigned, or as needed to ensure the provision of safe and competent care.

9.Participates in the development and support of partnerships within the organization, including patients and their families, and other divisions and departments within the hospital.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses and procedures; of accepted medical treatment programs; and of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures.

Skill in the care and treatment of patients and in the operations of computers and applicable computer software.

Ability to provide patient care, to prepare and maintain records, to explain public health laws, and to communicate effectively.


Registration or Licensure

Requirements:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Texas, or in a party state, that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact as described in Art. 4528b of the Nurse Practice Act; Initial Selection Criteria:

1.Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Texas, or in a party state, that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact as described in Art. 4528b of the Nurse Practice Act;

Must have two (2) years of work experience as a RN @ NTSH
