Responsibilities and Qualifications
Under the direction of the RN or Physician, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient's highest level of safety and wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals.
Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient. Performs technical skills, for pediatric & adult patients, such as: dressing changes, suctioning, bedside EKG, POC testing, obtaining vital signs, and transferring patients. Assists in unit operational support tasks or duties. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

This program is for nursing students only, if a student leaves a program for any reason, they can no longer be a nurse extern.

completed competency on their Mercy competency checklist:
Use the Nursing Process to establish priority of care Insertion/removal of peripheral IV catheter Monitor IV Fluids Basic Dressing Changes that require NO MEDS or OINTMENTS Naso Gastric Tube Placement, management and removal
Staple and suture removal
Tracheostomy care and suctioningETCO2 capnography set upAdminister Tube FeedingsMonitor patient receiving blood products for adverse reactions
