The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate and direct activities of the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC), Mid-line Insertion Team, and Critical Care Nurse Education. To provide direct patient to medical, surgical, obstetrical, gynecological, and infectious disease patients that require intensive care rather than customary or routine care utilizing professional nursing principles and practices. This position is located with the Division of Nursing, Special Care Unit at the Chinle Hospital in Chinle, Arizona.
Serves as the Clinical lead and staff member of the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) and the Midline Insertion Team. Provides training for PICC/Mid-line Insertion Team.
Manages and oversees the coordination of educational activities for the Service Unit's PICC and Midline Insertion Team by developing, scheduling, and conducting training for new and present PICC and Midline Insertion Team. Teaching modules essential to the continuing and ongoing competency training, education, and development of new and experienced nurses at direction of the supervisor.
Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with department and PICC/Midline Insertion Team, other departments within the hospital, and Nursing Education Department. Assist with the development of policies and procedures for the Special Care Unit nurse training, competency program, and the PICC/Midline Insertion program.
Initiates treatment, medication, and emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders and ACLS protocol. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by physician for treatment of medications, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, nasogastric tubes, etc. Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate health care.
Provides teaching and counseling services to patients, families, and the community as a whole, specifically; for immediate health problems, teaches patient and families about management of medications, nutrition, treatments, and necessary tests at home.

BASIC REQUIREMENT (S)
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level - In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
