This opportunity provides the following:
The Nurse Educator is responsible for providing education and training for all hospital employees.
The Educator will carry out facility initiatives in accordance with UHS policies and governmental to promote the highest standards of quality and best practices in education and training. He/she functions as a consultant, educator and facilitator for all Hospital and nursing staff.
He/she will oversee and provide orientation, mandatory in-services, continuing education and other training to meet all department and facility needs and regulatory requirements. He/she will be an active member in quality assurance and process improvement activities. He/she will collect, review, present data on associated committees, and carry out actions plans for quality improvement related to training and education.
He/she works closely with Infection control to assist in education and ensuring onboarding employee health related criteria is met. The educator creates and oversees the preceptor program, as well as maintains precepting and training schedule for new employees. He/she is responsible to organize all training offerings and ensure all staff participate in initial and ongoing/annual competencies. The educator ensures all regulations and requirements of TERM are followed regarding education, orientation, annual, & ongoing and training.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
Current RN licensure or work permit in the state of Kentucky. This position requires medium skill level in Math and Language and a high level in reason. Psychiatric nursing experience is required and prefer a minimum of Bachelors Degree in Nursing; Masters in Nursing is ultimately preferred.
In lieu of BSN, psychiatric nursing and/or nursing instruction experience could be considered. Requires at least 5 years of experience in psychiatric nursing. Previous instruction experience is preferred.
Should possess knowledge in Microsoft office, including word, PowerPoint, outlook, excel & publisher; adobe. Must be creative and have ability to create engaging presentations and trainings. Proficiency in public speaking and training one to one up to large groups of people is expected.
Must be detail oriented and highly organized. Must be able to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and problem solving. Responsible for keeping track of training files for staff up to date including all required onboarding, annual, and on-going competencies.
Must be autonomous and be able to work well with a team. Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills.
Must possess knowledge of developmental stages of children, adolescents, geriatrics, and adults, and the social, cultural, and environmental influences on both patient and family members.
Must have knowledge of family dynamics, adaptive/maladaptive coping skills that families use, parenting skills, and ability to work with family systems in effort to resolve conflicts.
Must have basic understanding of chemically dependent families and sources available in communities to provide support to the patient and family.
Must have working knowledge of psychiatric, behavioral, substance-related, & medical diagnoses and medications.
Must have understanding of group dynamics.
Must have working knowledge of nursing skills and use of medical equipment.
Must have thorough understanding of scope of practice for Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses. Must have thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, skills, and practices.
Must have accelerated computer skills and experience with electronic medical record.
May be required to work on a nursing unit or round on weekends and/or during hours outside of normal business.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in many different situations.

This position will include moderately strenuous work requiring the ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds. An employee must have sufficient strengths and agility to participate in psychiatric crisis requiring therapeutic physical restraint of patient who have lost self-control. Occasional stooping, kneeling, and reaching are required.
Must be able to accurately perceive the nature and quality of sound and perceive visual impressions related to shape, size, distance, motion and have near normal visual acuity and color perception. The job requires 10% sitting and 90% standing or walking.
The employee may participate in physical restraint of patients and working directly with patients as needed.
