Our network employs more than 2,000 medical professionals and support staff, at our main Hospital campus in Northampton and additional locations in twelve towns throughout the Pioneer Valley. Cooley Dickinson's VNA & Hospice is also a vital part of our network, providing home-based services throughout Hampshire and Franklin counties.

Cooley Dickinson is currently seeking a Nurse Director for our Emergency Department.

Come and join us as we transform Emergency Care through our "Campaign for the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Emergency Department". This multimillion-dollar project will enable us to better meet our community's needs through improved care coordination with shorter wait times, increased privacy, enhanced pediatric and geriatric care, and enhanced behavioral health delivery both now and into the future.

The Nurse Director, Emergency Services is accountable for the 24/7 delivery of consistent, high quality patient care across the Emergency Department and ED Behavioral Health Pod.

The Nurse Director promotes the development and satisfaction of patients, nursing, and support staff, assessing and improving on an ongoing basis, operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with hospital, organizational, regulatory and standards of practice.

The Nurse Director is an essential leadership position for Cooley Dickinson Hospital, encompassing patient-focused management, personnel management and development, business administration of the unit, development of collaborative and team partnerships within units and interdisciplinary settings, and participation in the Department of Nursing and Cooley Dickinson Hospital groups and committees.

This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Master's degree in nursing or related field preferred. Enrollment in Master's program within 18 months of hire required.

  • Current license (or eligibility) to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.

  • A minimum of three (3) years nursing leadership experience required.

  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification required.

  • Exceptional operational skills with the ability to not only develop but deliver outcomes.

  • Certification in Emergency Nursing by the Emergency Nursing Association (ENA) preferred.

  • Experience in organizational change required.

  • Strong regulatory knowledge and accountability required.

  • Experience in facilities renovations and/or other projects affecting patient flow strongly preferred.

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills required.

  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills with a variety of audiences required.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective nursing teams, to mentor and coach others, and to foster provider and nursing collaboration required.

  • Fiscal competency and ability to develop annual budgets and manage staff and other operating resources efficiently and effectively required.
