Overview

To provide all nursing related duties in a program setting.

Responsibilities

1.Provides comprehensive oversight and management of the medication program. Monitors the physical condition of clients involved in physical restraints or demonstrating emotional responses that may affect their health and well-being. Ensures that medications are packaged and prepared for off-campus activities

2.Oversees record-keeping functions as related to health records, medical findings, and regulatory requirements; works with referring agents to ensure that medical data is current, available, and accurate, including immunizations and other health-related requirements for school attendance and/or residential living. Maintains all required paperwork and documentation necessary for the agency and for third-party billing services.

3.Works collaboratively with the Clinical Supervisor, Director (Education/Program), Psychiatrist, and/or the program administration (Component Director, Assistant Component Director, and/or his/her Designee) on evaluating referrals and admissions to the program as related to the emotional, health, and medical needs of potential clients; develops and conducts staff trainings related to all aspects of medication administration, first aid, CPR, and health issues of children and adolescents.

4.Consults with the Medical Director, Psychiatrist, clinical staff, and the program administration regarding the emotional, behavioral, and treatment needs of clients, including health issues, medication-related needs, side-effects, and behavioral changes, positive or negative, as necessary and appropriate.

5.If certified to have prescription privileges, provides prescriptions for psychotropic medications to Y.O.U. Inc. clients under the supervision of the Medical Director; participates in providing emergency coverage for clients to whom medication has been prescribed.

Additional Responsibilities

1.Monitors the physical condition of clients and maintains all medical records as required; arranges medical and dental appointments for all residents as necessary and in a timely manner; works with program staff to coordinate appointments and provide for transportation.2. Maintains information for staff regarding any changes in the health or medical status, as well as the medications, for every client.3.

Serves as a member of the treatment team whenever appropriate or requested by the program's administration to provide information relative to the health, medical, or medications for the clients; provides all medically related case management functions in working with the family, social service agencies, collaterals, and/or sending school districts.4. Provides health-related workshops and seminars for students covering topics of daily and personal hygiene.5. Oversees the ordering and inventorying of all first aid or medical supplies, such as gloves and facemasks, for the program.

Qualifications

Must have experience in nursing functions within a school and/or residential setting and have knowledge of applicable state regulations.

A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to fulfill essential job functions is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Must possess a degree in nursing with licensing as a Registered Nurse; BSN preferred. Experience in working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral issues preferred.

Must be able to perform sedentary aspects of position, including, but not limited to capability of fulfilling demands of driving/transporting clients as necessary.Must be able to perform physical restraints as necessary and must be in relatively good health and be able to perform the duties listed above.
