Education: BSN required
Licensure: RN in the state of MissouriExperience: Minimum of 3-5 years in perioperative services
Certifications: CNOROther: Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Must be highly computer literate; with excellent competency in Microsoft Office, word, excel, and power point Must be able to function well with a high degree of independence and initiative and possess an in depth Knowledge of clinical/surgical nursing care. Because of the changing needs of the department/institution, the appropriate percent of time devoted to the duties of the clinician, educator, researcher and consultant as outlined in duties and responsibilities may be contracted differently for certain periods of time.Preferred Education: MSN preferred
Preferred Experience: Prefer minimum of 1 year experience in prior nursing leadership or education.
Responsible for implementing, in coordination with Nursing Leadership and Talent Development Optimization (TDO), programs aimed at improving competencies and increasing awareness of nursing trends in perioperative services. In conjunction with department Supervisors, Director, Physician Leadership and Administration; develops and monitors QI programs for the Perioperative Nursing Divisions; writes, reviews and revises departmental policies and procedures; assures regulatory compliance.
In conjunction with department supervisors and director, coordinates clinical education, orientation,core competencies and annual competencies. Schedules inservices as needed. As a resource person for Perioperative Services, consults with physicians, consumers, community nd other health care disciplines. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
ResponsibilitiesSafety/Risk Managementa. Follows policy/procedure for Event Report/Sentinel Eventsb.
Follows confidentiality policy/procedure.c. Complies with Infection Prevention guidelines.d. Creates a safe environment; assists with development of department specific policies and annual and core competencies.e.
Adheres to hospital wide and specific safety regulations- Fire and tornado- Environmental safetyf. Coordinates equipment safety checks.g. Complies with patient rights/regulations and serves as a coach/mentor for others.h. Collaborates with special services supervisors and other hospital personnel to conduct annual drills; fire safety, disaster, code blue.
Coordination of Servicesa. Consults collaboratively with other members of the Perioperative departments, other departments, and other health care professionals within the institution or community.b.
Evaluates practice and effectively implements change as a result of QI studies or research.c. Identifies, tracks, and reports on Quality initiatives for each perioperative department.d Acts as a role model and mentor to a variety of populations.
Primary Aspectsa. Accepts responsibility for keeping self informed of current nursing practice.b.
Accepts responsibility to enhance individual goals and professionalism.c. Acts as a consultant to the bedside caregiver. Functions as an EPIC super user for all perioperative departments.d.
In conjunction with the department director, directs the scope of practice in the inpatient setting based upon specific area.e. Organizes and participates in educational programs for individuals, staff and communityf. Analyzes educational process and plans appropriate interventions.g.
Works with department supervisors and director to maintain regulatory compliance.h. Assigns all required courses in 'My Learning' to perioperative coworkers.
Technologya. Demonstrates competence initiating and maintaining use of routine equipment and procedures.b. Demonstrates competence in assisting physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.c. displays proficiency in technical skills relative to area of nursing practice.
