The Iowa Veterans Home is looking for a day shift Nurse Clinician.
The Nurse Clinician (NCL) is an Associate Nurse for residents in their assigned coverage area for each shift worked. The NCL responsibilities include:
Providing direct care to the resident
Implementing interventions with the resident and/or resident's decision maker to assist the resident to achieve and maintain their optimal mental and physical functioning
Following the nursing process in all aspects of practice regarding the resident's care need
Providing clinical leadership and mentoring to the LPNs to ensure that professional nursing practice is achieved and maintained within the full scope of their licensure
Assesses, communicates and documents acute and/or chronic health concerns for resident needs or issues
Attends report daily to direct staff assignments and workload distribution
Participates daily in the delivery of care at the bedside by performing nursing procedures including licensed treatments, administration of medications and providing resident cares
Responds appropriately to episodic and emergent needs

Under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS's) new vaccine mandate for healthcare workers (published on November 5, 2021 and affirmed by the United States Supreme Court on January 13, 2022), all potential employees of this facility must have received, at a minimum, the first dose of a primary series or a single dose vaccine OR have an approved religious or medical exemption (as determined by the Iowa Veterans Home) OR have documentation reflecting a temporary delay in vaccination (as determined by the agency in accordance with CDC allowances), prior to the start date. Candidates shall coordinate with agency staff to ensure all requirements are met before the individual provides any care, treatment, or other services for the facility and/or its residents.Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing and experience equal to one year of full-time professional clinical work in a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatrics, or intellectual disability.
All of the following (a and b):
a. One year of full-time professional clinical work experience in either a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatrics, or intellectual disability; and
b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in nursing equals one year of full-time experience.
