The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered Nurse Clinical Coordinator to support our UI Community Clinics during weekend hours. The Clinical Coordinator coordinates and facilitates patient care functions within the off-site clinics during weekend shifts in the absence of department leaders. This individual assures that hospital policies and procedures are followed. They will notify appropriate administrator on-call of any problems or situations above his/her authority to solve that are of a complex or unusual nature. This position may have some limited involvement in direct patient care based upon staffing needs and will primarily focus their efforts in planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Assists and acts a liaison with supporting new initiatives including new service lines, expanding clinics, adding new providers, etc.

  • Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in planning, delivering, and evaluating care for primary and specialty patient populations.

  • Lead or participate in evidence-based projects within specialty area and collaborate with the appropriate CPL or NPL staff member to implement practice changes.

  • Adhere to internal and regulatory policies and guidelines.

  • Maintain primary responsibility for staffing sign offs on weekends; troubleshoot staffing gaps and identify solutions.

  • Assist with creating the clinic staffing schedule.

  • Assists with reviewing benefit request in time tracking system.

  • Participate in recruitment, developing, and managing performance of staff. Knowledgeable of and implement human resources policies/procedures and provisions in the collective bargaining agreements.

  • Applies expertise in communicating real time feedback and direction to clinical staff.

  • Serves as a liaison between staff, family members, and UICC leadership.

  • Applies expertise to improve nursing outcomes, leads and participates in evidence-based projects, and implements team-based care.

  • Troubleshooting and managing maintenance/facility issues in real time.

  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.

  • Provides direct patient care responsibilities as needed, floating to other clinics as needed

  • Allocate resources to meet quality and productivity expectations.

  • Ensure unit/clinic is survey ready.

  • Follow and apply leave management policies. Knowledgeable of and implement human resources policies/procedures and provisions in the collective bargaining agreements.

  • Other clinic duties as assigned.

Pay Grade: 4B https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans

Percent of Time: 70% - 90% (28 - 36) hours per week)

Schedule: Saturday and Sunday 5:00 AM - 5:30 PM; with 12 hours of hours completed during Monday

  • Friday *(applicable if identified for higher than 60% time), limited holiday time.

Location: Iowa City, IA and surrounding clinic locations

Required Qualifications:

  • A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.

  • 1 - 3 years of nursing experience is required.

  • Valid license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa.

  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Internet.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Current valid driver's license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1 - 3 years' experience in patient care, particularly those with ambulatory acute care.

  • Demonstrated leadership and training skills (i.e. charge, preceptor, shared governance, etc.).

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families, and health care workers.

  • Professional nursing certification is desired.

  • Familiarity with UIHC and ambulatory clinic workflows.

  • Previous experience supervising direct reports.
