Responsibilities

  • Take vitals (blood-pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration) according to established procedures.

  • Measure statistics - record intake and output, height, and weight.

  • Obtain routine lab samples not requiring laboratory personnel.

  • Help patients with ADLs (activities of daily living) for which they need assistance, specifically bathing, combing hair, brushing teeth, shaving, putting on stockings and/or slippers, dressing, ambulation, and toileting.

  • Help patients with equipment for their treatment and help patients to move, transfer from bed to chair, or transport them to other departments for testing or treatment.

  • Infection control: know and follow proper protocol in avoiding the spread of germs and spores which transport disease.

  • Observe and report to assess the progress of the patient as well as any needs the patient might have for medical intervention and observe and remove any potential hazards which could cause accidents.

  • Keep patients rooms clean and orderly

  • Set up patients for meals, assisted with meals if needed, or fed if unable to do for self and document the amount of meal taken.

  • Answer signal lights promptly on all patients on the unit, not just assigned patients.

  • Practice as a team member in delivery of care.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Previous health care experience preferred.

Required Licensure and Certifications

CNA Certification (ND State Nursing Assistant Registry)

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

Current certification in CPR within orientation period and renewed annually. Attend in-service/meetings and keep current on work related issues

  • 12 hours CEU/year.

Must have positive and effective skills in dealing with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, providers, and other hospital staff. Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate behavior consistent with the CommonSpirit Health Mission Statement.

Acknowledges and demonstrates the importance of care coordination and navigation by rounding on patients when necessary. <br><br> Works in collaboration with providers and independently to provide care. Formulates a plan for treatment of the patient and prescribes medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized if necessary, in order to aid recovery and manage pain. Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses in a timely manner. <br><br> Consult with or refer patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise. Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability. Counsels' patients and family members about self-management on prevention and treatment plan for health issues, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances. <br><br> May cover hospital consultations, rounding, and assist with patient procedures as needed. Conducts research into area of specialty and uses findings to provide measurable improvements in patient care and clinical outcomes. Incorporates evidence based practice guidelines into care. <br><br> Maintain current knowledge of state legal regulations for advanced practice provider practices, including reimbursement of services. Keep abreast of regulatory processes and payer systems such as Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and private sources, as applicable. Demonstrate extensive advanced knowledge of medical principles, practices and techniques.</p><p>Qualifications</p><p>Completion of a master's, postmaster's, or doctorate from an nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.</p><p>Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months, or completion of master's/post-master's degree program in the past twelve months. Experience must correlate to the privileges requested.</p><p>Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.
