About the Position: This position is located at Bassett Army Community Hospital, in the Medical Management Division, in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 3.74% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change.
Experience with infection control and patient safety is highly preferred.

Analyze nursing techniques and other medication processes and recommend changes as appropriate.
Develop and manage the Patient Safety Program for Bassett Army Community Hospital.
Maintain database of accumulated data from Patient program.
Manage and maintain reporting system for surveillance activities and prepare statistical reports.
Participate in the development of policies and procedures for patient safety implementation.
Perform Safety Assessment Code (SAC) analysis of all patient safety incidents.
Serve as an expert in infection control.
Occasional travel - Up to 10% Business Travel required.

Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain certification as a Hospital Infection Control Manager within one year of employment
Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.
This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Basic Requirement for a Nurse (Administrative/Infection Control):
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Education Substitution: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
Degree and Experience: Possession of a diploma, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level).
Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of experience which includes assisting with managing clinical practices in programs, performing medical surveillance and educating patients or nursing staff.
