Boeing Commercial Airlines has an exciting opportunity for Numerical Control Tape Laminator Operators to join our team located in Everett, WA.

Workers in this position operate and adjust numerically controlled (NC) tape/tow laminator machines, using composite materials to manufacture detail parts/assemblies, used in aerospace production. Lamination work is done in a clean room environment.

Position Responsibilities

  • Prepare to set-up job (e.g., production orders, first lots, tool tryouts) or run previously set-up job by reviewing Common Manufacturing Execution System (CMES), work order (W/O), tie-in sheets, operator's or setup documents. Employees should be able to access blueprints/drawings.

  • Ensure that correct material (type and quantity) and tools or fixtures were issued and are free from visible defects.

  • Identify type of machine set-up needed from drawing and W/O Common Manufacturing Execution System (CMES), (e.g., flat tape laminating machine (FTLM), contour tape laminating machine(CTLM)), automated tape lamination machine (ATLM), automated fiber placement machine (AFP), as required.

  • Check machine set-up and/or parts completed by previous operator to determine progress on a job and ensure safe working conditions. Perform total productive maintenance (TPM) (e.g., check fluids), as required.

  • Prepare CTLM, FTLM, AFP and ATLM by obtaining material from freezer submitting a SAT(Shipside Action Tracker)(e.g., graphite, peel ply, fiberglass) perform processes prior to machine operation (e.g., roll tackifier, lay fiberglass, hook up pull vacuum, manual probing), as required.

  • Use dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments to align and level layup table, as required.

  • Retrieve and download CNC programs to machine controller downloading from mainframe server.

  • Set machine coordinates or index points per CNC documents, including acraline or manual probing tool set up. Adjust offset/compensations, tool heights and laser, using controller keyboard and or pendant as required.

  • Run machine to lay graphite plies, copper ampe plies hand lay precut doublers, hand trim and rework, as required.

  • Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) functions as required.

  • Move finished parts and/or tools using appropriate material handling equipment (e.g., man aboard stacker, automated guidance vehicle (AGV), aluminum lift) as required.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., ketone, acetone, tackifier) in an approved manner per Safety Data Sheets using personal protective equipment, as required.

  • Monitor machine during operation for unusual vibration or sounds, watch machine gauges and controller display or digital readout for warnings. Visually check cutter path and clearance to ensure smooth operation.

  • Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job per verification optimization, as requited, to ensure parts are complete per drawing and that there are no defects .

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

  • Consult with team leader, supervisor and/or others (e.g., inspection) on process or job related issues, as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience using precision measuring tools

  • 1+ years of experience obtaining and using information from drawings, documents, machine control data, to set up parts or material on pallets for machining operations

  • Experience with multi-axis Numerical Control (NC) machines

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience reading and interpreting assembly instructions or drawings

  • 1+ years of experience operating 3, 4, or 5 axis NC/CNC machine tools

  • Able to work with and around hazardous materials (while using the proper protective equipment)

Typical Education & Experience

High school graduate or GED preferred.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary Pay Range: $25.50 - $45.04 an hour
