Our Valley Forge Production team is seeking a Numerical Control Programmer to support our development and production of weapon systems, ground support equipment, and satellite assemblies.
Summary of Key Duties for this position:
Support both prototyping and high-volume machining.
Set up, operate, and program 3, 4 and 5 axis Vertical Milling Centers, Mill Turn centers, and associated machine shop tools.
At times operate and run a machine using self-developed CNC program to test and to produce parts.
May be required to solve problems relative to work-holding arrangement, unusual materials, machine settings, tools, product specifications, and fabrication methods for production process.
Normally performs precision work to tight tolerances and dimensions for research engineers as well as reproducing the same part in a production environment.
Will be responsible for checking own work against a 3D model.
Some operations may require the use of a respirator or other PPE.
Develop and write programs for numerically controlled machines using engineering specifications and drawings.
Analyze engineering drawings to define configuration of parts and determine type and sequence of machine operations.
Support Manufacturing Engineer and Design review process for producibility/machinability.
Develop programs for machining parts on numerically controlled machine tools and make proper cutter selections for each part, taking into consideration such factors as speeds, types of cutters, feeds, and control system limitations.
Conceptualize and Design Shop Aids & Tool Designs related to machine set-ups and select program routines for the most efficient computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements for each part.
Test and modify existing parts programs for engineering changes or program improvements.
Support Machine Operators in all phases of machining (set-up, run, lessons learned, etc.) and coordinate new equipment set-up and operational validation.
Identify and order/track Consumable Tooling related to machining operations.
Train machinists on CNC machines and software (new/existing) and train ME group for producibility/machinability.
Shift work and weekend work may be required to meet production schedules. Travel may be required.
Ability to set up, operate, and program a Vertical CNC 3 & 5 Axis Mills and Mill-turn lathes.
A minimum of 5 years' experience, or formal education in using, and/or programming semi-automated or automated CNC machines.
Ability to perform all setups and programming on machines, sometimes requiring the use of special fixtures and other improvised methods for holding and aligning work.
Ability to utilize typical machine shop manual equipment and tools such as Mills, Lathes, Drills, etc.
Ability to read and work from detailed work instructions and drawings.
Strong communication, interpersonal and teaming skills.
Position requires the ability to safely lift 40 pounds and stand for prolonged periods.
Comfortable maintaining tight tolerances (+/-.001").
Ability to pass a medical exam for use of a respirator.
Knowledge of engineering drawing interpretation and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
5+ years' experience in machine shop operations and NC programming, preferably in MasterCAM.
Demonstrated ability to take ownership and see projects thru to completion.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
