Job Summary

Applicant will be responsible for the coordination of testing, cost control, maintenance, application of software, and development of programming to address simulator performance in a full scope nuclear power plant control room simulator. The successful candidate will develop and maintain real-time software models of nuclear power plant electrical, reactor control, thermal heat balance, and fluid process systems, using commercial and custom software package. Interface with simulator instructional staff to ensure modeling fidelity and coordinate with a hardware specialist to ensure accurate plant emulation and simulator performance. Categorize work requests and produce simulator performance metrics for management oversight.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to work independently to identify/troubleshoot/resolve simulator software issues, including the development and implementation of testing schedules, program diagnostic activities, and apply software patches.

  • Develop simulator model project plans and work with vendors to obtain service support. In addition, develop upgrade cost projections and software life cycle plans.

  • Proficiency in FORTRAN computer programming language and working knowledge of the Windows operating system is required.

  • Additional proficiency in C++, Visual Basic, JavaScript, and Microsoft Office applications and experience with software programming is a plus.

Job Specific Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor of Science or Applied Science degree.

  • In lieu of a degree must have 10 years of equivalent work experience which may include power plant operations, electrical, electronics, programming, simulation modeling, and/or digital controls.

  • Available (as needed) for off-normal hours work to meet simulator schedule for maintenance and testing.

  • Two years of professional experience building software. Experience in C++

  • Education, training, or experience in thermal power plant basics or ability to be successful in completing power plant systems training.

  • Physically able to crawl into panels, lift equipment up to 25lbs, work on a ladder, walk into the station, and around power plant equipment.

  • Must meet and maintain Nuclear requirements for Unescorted Site Access.

Desired:

  • A degree in any engineering field, computer science, physics, or chemistry

  • Commercial, naval or Nuclear power plant experience

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor).

  • Typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience)
