Participate in the day-to-day operation of the department, including quality control and patient exam acquisition. Perform the full spectrum of Nuclear Medicine exams, PET/CT exams and other relevant or associated imaging procedures. May be assigned non-technical responsibilities as needed and/or transfer to other areas as needed.

PET/CT Technologist; full-time, days (9-1730) on call and holidays required

General Job / Performance Information

Perform all Nuclear Medicine/PET/CT procedures listed in the procedure manuals at a high level of competence.

  • Properly prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals using the prescribed standards for radiation safety.

  • Utilize the dose calibrator to accurately assay all radiopharmaceuticals before administration to the patient.

  • Cover standby in NM and PET/CT on a rotating basis and more often as needed. Work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

  • Perform area surveys, wipe tests, and all other prescribed radiation monitoring procedures according to department policies and authorized licensee.

  • Maintain professional licensures and continuing education. Submit copies of certificates and education to administration as they are received. Maintain CPR certification.

  • Maintain a professional manner at all times, especially during times of high stress. Maintain a professional working relationship with other Radiology staff members, Radiologists, nursing personnel and referring physicians.

  • Perform a variety of miscellaneous tasks as requested by the department supervisor or administration.

  • Keep the exam room clean and stocked. Inform the appropriate person when supplies are needed.

  • Proficiently process images after completion of exams.

  • Competently use all functions of the computer system. Correctly charge all exams according to the proper CPT definition as soon as the exam is completed. When applicable, edit requests, look up lab results, and promptly send all charge corrections to the Nuclear Medicine/PET/CT Supervisor.

  • Schedule outpatients for exams in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT in appropriate time slots. Ensure all necessary information is available, including ordering Physician, diagnosis, insurance information and pre-certification information.

  • Transport patients to and from the exam tables carefully and courteously. Transport patients and supplies to other areas of the hospital as needed. Use the hospital transportation system when needed.

  • May be responsible for specific areas of instruction regarding new staff, ancillary personnel, South Plains' students and Findlay NMI students.

  • Proficiently start IV's or acquire venous access as needed.

  • Assist in other areas of radiology as needed.

  • Attend all department staff meetings.

  • Adhere to all department policies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program or equivalent training. Prefer minimum 1 year experience as a technologist in a hospital/clinic setting.

REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:

Current TDH/MRT Certification, Current ARRT and/or NMTCB Certification and CPR certified. CT certification is strongly recommended but not required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

This position requires fluency in all matters of Nuclear Medicine Procedures and PET/CT procedures. Radioactive Materials quality control experience is helpful.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:

This position requires interacting with all UMC/PNS Health system clinics, personnel, physicians and radiologists. This position requires interacting with hospital floors, units, and ancillary patient service personnel when dealing with inpatients. There is also a close relationship with the Heart Station, Radiology, Cath. Lab and SWCC.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

Must be emotionally and physically fit. Work requires frequent standing and lifting of patients, materials and equipment. The work is, at times, stressful with many emotional demands. The position requires near visual acuity.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is subject to inside environmental conditions. This position requires constant work around and handling of radioactive materials. Occupational risk to blood borne pathogens is moderate to high.
