If you are great at creating a welcoming & supportive environment, we want to talk to you Job Summary for Nuclear Medicine Supervisor: Supervises and performs a variety of nuclear medicine scanning and other imaging procedures not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.

Supervises and performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear medicine imaging diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Assign, direct and coordinate the activities of the nuclear medicine technical department, schedule, orient, train, assure observance of policies, procedures, and work standards, check work for proper completion, and take corrective action when needed.

Assist with nuclear medicine specific training during new physician onboarding. Assist with interview of applicants for staff positions to ensure applicant meets criteria for the position. Confer with and provide input to the technical director regarding employee job performance, morale, staffing, work methods, procedures, related personnel matters, and equipment performance.

Perform counseling and corrective actions when needed. Recommend promotion, discipline, and other administrative actions.

Perform employee evaluations.

Oversee and coordinate equipment maintenance to ensure equipment is operating properly. Provide reliable and accurate diagnostic images via contact with vendors, service contracts, preventive maintenance, and quality control. Provide immediate input to the technical director on all related issues.

Understand and implement policies and procedures. Encourage and support employees to promote high level of morale and productivity. Act as a liaison between the organization, patients, and referrals to ensure open communication via staff and management during meetings, problem-solving sessions, and participation on task forces.

Responsible for all safety related issues in assigned areas of supervision, including but not limited to, radiation, occupational exposure controls, chemical, electrical, mechanical, etc. Interpret rules and regulations where applicable to those personnel assigned. The RSO is responsible for the implementation, coordination, and day-to-day oversight of the Radiation Protection Program.

Ensure that radiation safety activities are being performed in accordance with licensee-approved procedures and regulatory requirements. Help identify and investigate radiation safety problems. Initiate, recommend, or provide corrective actions for identified safety problems.

Verify implementation of corrective actions. Stop operations identified as unsafe. Notify management of radiation safety problems, unsafe operations, and corrective actions.

Provide contact between the licensee and the regulatory agencies. Be available for contact by the facility staff per regulations and license conditions. Sign semiannual sealed-source leak tests and inventories of sealed sources per regulation.

RSO must have experience in radiation safety for similar types of uses for which the licensee is seeking the approval of the individual as Radiation Safety Officer and must obtain a written attestation signed by a preceptor Radiation Safety Officer. Maintain and control use of equipment and supplies to ensure that dollars are used in a responsible manner. Order and prepare IV radiopharmaceuticals and diluent solutions for administration and assist radiologist/physician during administration.

Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals by injection, ingestion, or inhalation routes, as ordered. Prepare images for radiologist interpretation. Review processed images and documentation to ensure quality and completeness for diagnostic purpose.

Follow established policies and procedures, including safety and precautions. Assure performance of radiation safety, quality control, calibration duties, assignments, and record keeping. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, seminars, staff meetings, and on-the-job training programs as required.

Perform other related duties within the job classification or organization as necessary or as assigned by a radiologist, diagnostic imaging center manager, or technical director.
