Nuclear Fuel and Equipment Qualification Business Manager
The Nuclear Fuel and Equipment Qualification Business Manager reports to the Natrium Nuclear Fuel and Equipment Qualification Department Director and assists the Director in maintaining the department's vision, organizing the day-to-day operations, identifying and filling gaps, and increasing the operational efficiency of the department. The Business Manager is responsible for understanding and tackling the highest priority department challenges through discussions with key stakeholders. The Business Manager is a project management-oriented role focusing on performance management.
The Business Manager will drive alignment across the Senior Manager team, develop and track department goals and objectives, and be the first level to solve critical problems across the department organization. The Business Manager will interface frequently with the Senior Managers and Project Account Engineers for alignment on schedule planning, cost planning and management, staffing planning and management, and risk management. They will be responsible for coordinating and directing communications, developing, and making executive level presentations, developing, and coordinating team presentations, open-forums and roundtables in a way that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
The Business Manager will coordinate directly with other department Business Managers aligning processes and procedures along with lessons learned from each department. The Business Manager will provide relationship management and support for the department within the corporate organization such as Support Services, HR, Finance, Procurement and other teams. They will provide relationship management and support for the department within the project organization such as Project Analytics, Project Controls & Planning, Business Development, and other teams. The Business Manager will act as delegate to the Department Director on a temporary basis when needed.
Responsibilities
Assists in communicating department strategy, goals and vision:
Assists in establishing and tracking of performance on department goals
Continually refines department vision with the Director
Works with Senior Managers to Formalize and establish ownership across departmental groups
Determines feasibility and prioritizes team activities
Advises Director and Senior Managers on how best to execute internal and external strategies to position the department as a central driver of project success.
Interfaces with Business Development on long-term strategy
Helps drive accountability for the execution of core business activities.
Coordinate development of departmental budget, schedule, and resources planning:
Leads department support of corporate forecasting efforts
Coordinates department short and long-term planning with Project Planning Lead, Senior Managers, Control Account Managers and other project leaders
Coordinates the efforts of Control Account Managers and Project Coordinators within/across departments
Collaborates with project leadership to develop and execute planning processes and planning integration across the broader organization.
Monitor hiring, training, department structure:
Optimize team structure, team to team dynamics, and relationship building with key internal and external partners.
Assist human resources with current staff and new hires, including documentation and onboarding, and resolution of employee concerns
Collaborates with leaders regarding short and long term resource management planning and hiring strategies
Develop process, drive process Improvement & department efficiency:
Drives operational effectiveness by influencing critical internal stakeholders.
Identifies opportunities for increases in efficiency of project and corporate process, and leads process improvement initiatives
Assesses risks, identify problem areas in execution, and improve collaboration among teams within the department and across the project.
Coordinates with Business Managers in other departments to alignment
Develops and analyze department performance data with Project Analytics and Project Controls and assist in preparing status reports
Contributes to identification of actions that can course-correct and drive performance improvement.
Initiate communications, develop presentations, and prioritize integration:
Creates clarity in ambiguous situations to facilitate and drive prioritization and decision making for leaders across the organization.
Communicates goals, priorities, and definitions.
Coordinates, develops, and provides executive level presentations, team presentations, open-forums and roundtables.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Minimum Education: B.S or advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
Strong preference for degree with Nuclear Engineering focus.
Minimum of 10 years' experience directly related to Engineering, Project Management or Project Delivery with preference for 3 years' of engineering project leadership or management experience.
Project management experience as well as experience managing engineers is preferred
Strong ability to drive improvements and achieve results
Strong organizational skills required
