X-energy is seeking professionals to join our Risk Informed Safety Analysis team in the role of Nuclear Engineer III, Probabilistic Risk Assessment. This position will perform risk assessments in accordance with the appropriate industry standards and guidance, authoring and reviewing PRA-related documents that support modelling and applications for risk insights. This role will use risk-related software to create and maintain PRA models that represent the design of X-energy projects. They will also produce and review calculation documents that support and control the PRA model files, use PRA models, and apply them to a range of applications to provide risk insights to support the design and future operation of X-energy projects.
Responsibilities
Follow the guidance of ASME/ANS RA-S-1.4-2021 (or other applicable PRA-related industry standards) in creating and maintaining PRA models and supporting calculation documents
Able to show increasing proficiency interpreting, applying, and assessing Standards
Demonstrate the revision and review of several PRA documents
Follow the guidance of dozens of PRA-dependent applications (such as NEI 18-04) to acquire risk insights from the PRA and apply them to the design process to ensure risk results are within frequency and consequence limits as endorsed by nuclear regulators
Maintain frequent contact with the PRA team by use of emails, meetings, and one-on-one conversations. Communications should involve updates on progress of projects, maintain the correct order of priorities and ability to adapt to change, and raise concerns to the team when there are problems with projects and their timelines
Develop increasing proficiency in using PRA-related software (such as EPRI's Phoenix Architect) in accordance with X-energy procedures, ensuring the correct software version is being used in the manner it was verified, be aware of limitations and restrictions of software, and ensure software is referenced in documents that depend on its use
Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity
Contribute to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; deal with changing priorities and differing situations and make decisions that may affect the work of the team
Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity
Conduct engineering and related studies; completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems
Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
Support the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Minimum Education/Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, Master's preferred
5-9 years of engineering experience
Work experience or university courses covering reactor safety or probabilistic risk assessment of nuclear power plants is preferred
Experience with using PRA-related software (fault tree editors and quantification processes) to build and modify fault trees following industry PRA guidance and standards is preferred
Experience producing and reviewing PRA-related analysis documents that control PRA models and provide risk insights to PRA-related applications is preferred
Understanding of basic principles of project management
Experience in the utility industry is preferred
Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures
Proficient in technical and analytical competencies
Effective oral and written communication skills
U.S. Citizenship is required
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the SECRET level or higher is required

Work Site Expectations: Hybrid (at least 2 days per week in company office)
Travel Expectations: up to 10% depending on project requirements
