Nuclear Medicine Technologist

  • PRN position in the Radiology/Imaging Unit at Lutheran Health Network

  • Hours vary: must be willing to pick up shifts as needed - can include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift

  • Holiday rotation may be required

  • May be required to orient full time

Job Description: Serves as a technologist in the Nuclear Medicine department. Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine scans using gamma cameras and advanced computer processing. Is able to mix radiopharmaceutical kits and administer correct dosages to the patients. Follows NRC radiation safety guidelines.

Job Duties:

  • Prepares appropriate dosages of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic procedures.

  • Administers such radiopharmaceutical while observing universal precautions.

  • Obtains an accurate history concerning physical condition, preliminary diagnosis, and allergies in order to take these factors into account while performing diagnostic procedures. Also checks the order for additional information that may affect the results or the ability to do the test.

  • Maintains CEU's for licensing purposes.

  • Acquires and checks the quality of scans, quality of work performed and communicates results when indicated.

  • Maintains quality control in the department and keeps detailed records for inspection purposes.

  • Practices safe radiation procedures. Wears appropriate safety equipment and badges. Tries to maintain a minimal dose to self, patients, and observers. Uses appropriate instrumentation to ensure levels of radiation do not exceed those levels defined in NRC regulations. Reports excessive radiation exposure to the proper authority.

  • Takes initiative during slower times to seek out and perform additional duties that may be asked of them. Performs additional tasks as needed.

  • Fosters a team environment by adjusting the work schedules to enable the addition of acute add-ons.

  • Maintains patient privacy as much as allowable within the restraints of the department.

  • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.

  • Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.

  • Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.

Experience:

  • Minimum of six months to one year of progressively more responsible experience providing broad scope nuclear medicine services preferred.

Education:

  • ARRT Registered Technologist. Radiologic Technologist license in the State of Indiana. Nuclear Medicine certification is required.

  • Board Eligibility or current registry with the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) or certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and licensed in nuclear medicine with the Indiana State Department of Health.

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required within 7 days of employment.
