NS Park Maintenance Laborer (Part-Time)

Description of Work

Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled work tasks in the development, repair, maintenance and beautification of parks and recreational areas; repairs, operates and maintains tractor type mowers; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This class is distinguished by the performance of a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks in the overall repair, maintenance and beautification of parks or recreational grounds including the structures therein; and operates and maintains tractor type mowers involved in large-scale mowing activities. Assists full time staff in the repair, maintenance and cleaning of park facilities including buildings, stadiums, gymnasiums, swimming pools, pavilions, comfort stations, shelters, bleachers, water fountains, fences, picnic tables and benches, parking facilities and other recreational equipment and structures. Assists full time staff with minor maintenance repairs such as changing light bulbs and sockets, repairing and replacing faucets, washers, toilet floats, irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, picnic benches, lockers, stonewalls, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in manual labor and semi-skilled tasks involving the care, maintenance and beautification of landscaped areas, performance of semi-skilled or skilled building or mechanical trades experience, and/or operation or repair of tractor type mowers.
