Duties

Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) contributes to the development, implantation, and evaluation of patients from all Care Lines to enhance and/or provide patient care.

GI NP is assigned in the Medical Care Line to the Department of Digestive Disease (GI), and is clinically responsible to the Chief and Associate Chief of GI, GI Physicians and the MCL Care Line Executive.
Responsibilities

Perform history and physical examinations and developing appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.These will be reviewed by the supervising physician, who will note concurrence with countersignature, making an addendum if indicated. Proves ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients.

If there is a significant change in a patient's condition, the GI Nurse Practitioner should notify the clinical supervising physician and indicate in the medical record a change in the condition. A note should also be made that this was discussed with the clinical supervising physician. Patients seen in GI for routine care may be treated/managed by the GI Nurse Practitioner without immediate supervision.

Any condition that falls out of the normal parameters should be discussed with the clinical supervising physician and documented in the record that discussion took place. Procedures which may be performed by the GI Nurse Practitioner in emergency situations, pending the arrival of a physician; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Managing acute respiratory failure. Administrative duties will be specific for each GI Nurse Practitioner as designated by the Chief of GI, Associate Section Chief of GI or their designee to include:

Education of health care students, Participation in clinical research, Preventive Medicine Program and related duties, Emergency Preparedness duties that may arise as a result of national health disasters and all other duties as assigned by the Chief of GI, Associate Section Chief of GI, Chief of Endoscopy, Medical Care Line Executive, or their designee. The GI Nurse Practitioner will be CPR/BLS certified.

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education . In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: GI/Hepatology

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements:
Heavy Lifting 50 lbs and over (intermittently); Carrying up to 45 lbs (intermittently); Repeated bending; Straight Pulling up to 45 lbs (intermittently); Straight Pushing up to 45 lbs (intermittently); Stooping (intermittently); Squatting (intermittently); Kneeling (occasionally); Use of both arms; Use of both hands; Use of fingers; Overhead work, both arms (intermittently); Prolonged walking (up to 4 hours/day); Prolonged standing (up to 4 hours/day); Sitting (up to 2 hours/day); Far Vision - correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; Near Vision - correctable to read newsprint at 13-16 inches; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing - ability to hear and understand the spoken voice from a distance of 8 feet. Ability to effectively utilize a stethoscope and distinguish breath and heart, and bowel sounds; Emotional and mental stability - ability to effectively perform the essential functions of the position and respond appropriately in emergency situations.

The Area Manager is responsible for the effective promotion of Exact Sciences' products to gastroenterology physicians and their practices, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), Multi-Specialty clinics and other health care providers within the designated area. The Area Manager will recruit, train, coach, lead and provide performance management for the Gastroenterology Specialty Representatives in addition to directly promoting Exact Sciences' products. Area Managers will also oversee and effectively participate in the development of relationships and build advocacy for cancer screening and Cologuard among the gastroenterology community in the assigned area. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Successfully manage 8-12 direct reports including the recruitment and selection of highly qualified Gastroenterology Specialty Representatives, ensuring effective training and development of the sales force and providing coaching and ongoing performance management of the team. * Travel with direct reports in order to observe and provide training and coaching. * Through area team, successfully forecast and achieve quarterly and annual sales goals. * Manage the assigned area's sales targets and maintain ongoing reporting of progress with management team. * Establish and maintain ongoing communication and team operating mechanisms to ensure appropriate information is shared and collaboration within and outside of the team is taking place. * Responsible for ensuring sales force compliance in all Quality, Regulatory and Company policies and guidelines. * Proactively identify and build strong relationships and advocacy with key gastroenterology thought leaders and decision makers in assigned area. * Demonstrate effective leadership; drive effective performance through coaching, motivating & inspiring team of territory managers; provide clear expectations, ongoing feedback and opportunities for continuous development. * Collect ongoing customer insights, market trends & competitive data from sales force and communicate to leadership and peers. * Leverage up-to-date product and technical expertise to effectively present and discuss the technology and clinical benefits in terms which are relevant to customers. * Ensure the effective use of sales process and approved product marketing and product promotion material by regional sales force. * Effectively collaborate with Account Managers and commercial team members to optimize business performance within health systems within assigned area. * Leverage Medical Science Liaisons, Account Managers and other Company resources as necessary to provide the necessary technical, clinical and business content to create a competitive differentiation and deliver solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations. * Effectively manage open territories while recruiting for new personnel should a territory be vacated within designated area. * Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures. * Regular and reliable attendance. * Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
