We believe that education is the fundamental tool in the struggle for human dignity, self-esteem and self-determination. We seek to build community among our members, as well as the people we serve by reaching out across culture and class.

We are committed to helping people help themselves. Our goal is to promote and encourage education, community empowerment, leadership development and multicultural harmony in hopes of producing greater unity, less violence and better-informed citizens in our communities. All positions in Connecticut are designed to provide academic assistance for grades PreK-8.

NDA members support after school programs, receive educational training, support teachers in the classroom, assist in support and development of students, and facilitate school operations directly serving students. Each Service Site varies slightly in its service description. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required with all of the middle schools requiring a Bachelor's Degree.

Member Duties : Notre Dame AmeriCorps members serve as Teaching Assistants at elementary and middle schools across Connecticut. Available positions are at Grace Academy (Hartford), Trinity Academy (Hartford), Covenant Preparatory School (Hartford), St.

Martin de Porres Academy (New Haven), Covenant School of Bridgeport (Fairfield), Catholic Academy of Bridgeport (Bridgeport). NDMVA is looking for hardworking, non-judgmental, and flexible individuals who are comfortable in PreK-8th grade classrooms. Members must be open to differences, and celebrate and encourage their students. In addition to instructing classes, volunteers also serve as advisers, monitor lunch and recess, accompany students on field trips, conduct co-curricular activities, and serve during summer enrichment programs. Applicants should have some experience working with youth and be committed to a challenging and rewarding service position.
