The North America Maintenance Manager plays a critical leadership role in supporting the execution of major maintenance activities across all sub-regions and industrial gas technologies in the US and Canada. This role will be best served out of our HQ location in Pennsylvania or Houston, Texas, but has flexibility for other areas such as Long Beach, CA, Gonzalez, LA, or Chandler, AZ.

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Manager is to actively lead the North American Maintenance organization, leading a team of maintenance managers and maintenance personnel responsible for supporting all production facilities within NA. Working closely with senior operations line and technical management, ensure alignment with business objectives and effective coordination of engineering resources, while driving consistency in completion of maintenance activities. This includes improving execution efficiency, developing effective maintenance tools and methodologies, and developing a talent pipeline ultimately driving consistency throughout the Maintenance organization, resulting in plant reliability improvements and a decrease in maintenance spending.

This position is a key leadership member of the Project Resource and Outage Support (PROS) Group reporting to the N.A. Operations Director. The PROS group is a diverse team that supports maintenance, capital projects, strategic planning, and turnaround execution. This allows our team to provide specialized services and additional capacity for operational assets. The performance measures of maintenance include Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) performance, reliability of the assets, completion on schedule, and spending within budget.

Essential job functions:

  • Strong industrial maintenance or turnaround management experience of large multi discipline sites.

  • Effective and Strong leader.

  • Organized, focused, able to perform under pressure and handle multiple priorities and parallel tasks.

  • Understands quality standards as outlined by Air Products and regulatory agencies.

Primary job responsibilities:

  • Build an organization that demonstrates Maintenance as a necessary core competency, which will serve to attract, develop, and promote talent.

  • Lead the maintenance organization through planning, execution, and close-out of major activities.

  • Maintain a strong and effective professional working relationship with all stakeholders.

  • Support Air Products Management of Change process, recognizing plant changes and following through on all documentation and recommendations in a timely manner.

  • Develop tools and philosophies that enable your team to drive consistency in the execution of maintenance activities across NA

  • Define common KPIs to measure maintenance performance

  • Establish work processes that standardize the use of maintenance systems, including budgeting and forecasting tools, SAP, outage planning, and resource scheduling

  • Responsible for direct supervision of (7) Subregional Maintenance Managers and (1) Technician Supervisor.

Required abilities and conduct:

  • Able to achieve various State mandated certifications, TWIC, and other requirements as may be deemed necessary.

  • High ethical standards - unwilling to compromise on worker safety and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Demonstrates positive, supportive, and cooperative behavior in interacting with co-workers, supervisors and management.

  • Maintains confidentiality of written and verbal information pertaining to Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., its staff, management and participating onsite affiliates.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • 15+ years' validated experience in maintenance and/or engineering disciplines, preferably with experience in industrial maintenance. Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or project management is preferred.

  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, ISO's, piping isometrics, fixed equipment design packages, and pipe specs.

  • Familiar with Crane operations and oversight of major crane lifts

  • Strong working knowledge of operating plant systems including Maintenance, Machinery, Electrical, and Instrumentation. Broad technical familiarity with motors, pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, cooling towers, pressure vessels, and piping systems

  • Experience in maintenance budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning.

  • Proficient in the use of computers and business software, including Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook) OneNote, SAP, Primavera P6.

The expected pay range for this job varies based on location. In California, the expected pay range is $196,250-$229,400 plus bonus. This is the range that we reasonably expect to pay for this position as individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
