We are interested in a broad range of areas related to data science, and we are particularly interested in applicants with strong interdisciplinary research interests. Areas of interests include, but are not limited to artificial intelligence, computational social science, cognitive science, data management, data mining, data science for social good, machine learning, and natural language processing. Applicants must have a strong interest in engaging in substantive interdisciplinary research with collaborators in other disciplines. In addition to the multiple positions in a broad range of data sciences, we have a specific opportunity in "big data life sciences" (especially integrative genomics, metabolomics, microbiomics, infectious disease dynamics modeling and control). We are interested in learning how science advances can be mobilized to affect health and food supply in diverse populations. This is a co-hire with the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (https://www.huck.psu.edu/). Please mention explicitly in your cover letter if your background fits this specific opportunity. We welcome applications from exceptional candidates with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds (e.g., communication, cognitive science, economics, informatics, political science, sociology, statistics, physics, and computer science). Successful candidates will be expected to develop outstanding interdisciplinary research and contribute to graduate and undergraduate education and training in the data sciences. IST brings together researchers that use information and computation to benefit our understanding of how people work and live together in society, how communication networks can be improved and secured, and how humans can better interface with these networks. Our work is grounded in theory and powered by data and computation. The college offers a highly collaborative interdisciplinary research environment, strong research programs in data sciences, human-computer interaction, information security and privacy, and socio-technical systems, a strong Ph.D. program, and several highly successful undergraduate programs (including one in data science). IST faculty and students enjoy extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines as well as a number of university-wide cross-cutting centers and institutes. In addition to completing the online job application, interested applicants must submit the following material to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/9761 cover letter detailing relevant qualifications for this job, a resume or curriculum vitae, 2-5 page research statement, 1-2 page teaching statement, and at least 3 letters of reference.
