Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or GED and Completion of the Basic Arrhythmia Course

Licenses/Certifications: Certified by the American Hospital Association in BCLS

Experience / Knowledge /

  • Minimum of two (2) years hospital experience performing electrocardiograms (ECG); Holter monitoring, Holter scanning and related cardiac stress testing procedures

Principal Accountabilities

  • Prepares patients for electrocardiogram, Holter monitor, and/or stress test exam, explains procedure and ensures technical quality.

  • Manages multi-patient task list and prioritize appropriately.

  • Checks crash cart and defibrillator daily, maintains related logs, and ensures work area is clean and stocked.

  • Participates in PI activities established by the Non-Invasive Cardiology Services.

  • Reports any accidents, complaints, or equipment malfunction to the supervisor/manager.

  • Responds to all Code Blue calls as part of the resuscitation team. Prepares and presents ECG tracing to physicians for interpretation as per hospital process.

  • Reviews ECG tracing and alerts proper medical personnel of patients with serious arrhythmias.

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and escalates issues appropriately.

  • Serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

In this position, you will serve as a member and/or provider advocate by possessing knowledge and understanding of the organization's processes, policies, and procedures. This role will investigate, resolve, or facilitate resolution of simple to moderately complex issues or questions reported by departments within the organization. You will be the first point of contact for assistance and information regarding eligibility, benefits, authorizations, claims, referrals, and any other needs. This position will assist and advocate for members and providers throughout the complaint and appeal process and assist members with timely appointment scheduling. Think you've got what it takes? * BS preferred * experience working/training in a Stress Lab Responsibilities * Performs 15-lead electrocardiograms including rhythm strips, atrial ECG's, and esophageal ECG's, and cardioscan monitor placement for both inpatients and outpatients * Performs inpatient ECG's as requested * Documents completion of ECG's and cardioscan monitors in each respective logbook * Prepares patient for exercise testing including providing appropriate instructions and correct electrode placement * Completes service item charge form for each ECG, cardioscan, or exercise test performed and places in the appropriate box for the business office to pick up * Writes patient name, the medical record number, and the name of the physician in ECG log book with documentation of the test performed * Distributes reports to the appropriate destination by MUSE, fax, or mail within 24 hours of receipt from interpreting physician * Retrieves reports from MUSE system as requested by physicians or co-workers * Attends all mandatory staff training/development meetings as documented in staff meeting minutes * Inspects equipment daily and reports all malfunction of equipment to the manager or biomedical engineering Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent * Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science or related is preferred * Interest in Cardiac stress testing * Successful completion of mandatory CPR check-offs (infant, child, and adult) annually * Ability to use MUSE/MARS systems * Minimum of 1 year of experience as an ECG technician is preferred * Knowledge of field from reading pertinent educational materials or courses taken Company Profile Since 1954, Texas Children's has been leading the charge in patient care, education and research to accelerate health care for children and women around the world.
