Perform nondestructive test and inspection (NDTI) such as x-ray radiography, ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, visual testing, etc.
Test metallic and non-metallic materials and equipment contained in a variety of items or systems.
Study, examine, and interpret to locate and identify defects such as cracks, fissures, separations, cavities.
Compare item and drawings and specifications to identify mission parts, foreign objects, and electrical wiring, which are or are not present.
Recommend corrective measures to items such as type weld, type material, changes to construction, and type inspection for best results.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Secret security clearance required.
Temporary duty assignments worldwide, to include all contingency areas, up to 10% of the time.
Level II certification in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) and/or certification in Level I/II Radiography (RT), Eddy Current, Ultrasonic and Visual Testing.
May be required to attain on-the-job training experience and if so, remain in Federal service for three times the length of the OJT experience time.
Medical Restriction due to the potential of being exposed to a magnetic field in excess of 1 Gauss, employee may not have an implanted defibrillator.
Pre-employment and annual physical examination required to include near vision and color perception testing.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Nondestructive Tester without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Duties involve walking, kneeling, standing, stooping, climbing, bending, lifting, and moving items weighing approximately 40 pounds. Work requires manual dexterity and careful attention during manual, visual, and muscular coordination when using instruments in performing inspections and functional tests.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent works inside 95% of the time and, depending on workload, may be assigned to second or third shift. Incumbent is subject to radiation from machines, fumes during penetrant inspection, and soiled clothes from splashed solutions. Incumbent is also exposed to constant noise, dust, solvents, grease, and oils. Works around machinery with moving parts and around moving objects or vehicles. Incumbent is required to wear rubber gloves during magnetic particles and penetrant inspection. Work involves eye strain during viewing of very small imperfections and examining indications of fractures.
