Job Summary
EMCC is hiring a Fall 2024 Community Education course instructor to teach a Technology for College Success class to adults with intellectual disabilities. This position will work closely with the Manager of Disability Resources & Services (DRS) and local partner organization personnel on course delivery and student needs.
Essential Functions
45% - Teaches fundamental computer technologies for college success including login and personal information security, netiquette and college email, basics of information reliability, software versus hardware, use of a learning management system (Canvas) and introduction to MS Word and MS PowerPoint through practical application twice a week mid-morning to adults with intellectual disabilities for up to 14 weeks
25% - Supervises and assists students with in-class activities, use of tools and/or equipment giving students constructive feedback on in-class assignments
10% - Plans, organizes, prepares and distributes course Syllabus and other instructional materials or equipment to students, including visual aids and college resource visits
10% - Learns and uses the EMCC college systems and course web-based learning management system (LMS) Canva
5% - Assesses and documents students' progress and attendance in multiple domains
5% - Consults bi-weekly, or more often as needed, with the Manager of DRS throughout the course to review and discuss lesson plans, course materials/activities, individual student progress/needs
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree and three years of experience in fundamentals of computer hardware and software usage
Desired Qualifications
Two years' experience working with adult or youth (16 yo and up) learners with disabilities
Two years' experience using LMS systems such as Canvas
Two years' experience using MS Office 365
Knowledge and experience with levels of student prompting and assistance to promote independence
Knowledge of assistive technologies for individuals with disabilities
Special Working Conditions
Work is routinely performed in an indoor, classroom environment.
