Amalgamated Bank seeks a NIM Accounting Manager to work full-time in our New York City office. The NIM (Net Interest Margin) Accounting Manager works under the guidance of and assists the Chief Accounting Officer in preparing and reporting financial statements conforming to principles of accounting and regulatory requirements.

The main role is to ensure the preparation and proper GAAP accounting for all items related the bank's net interest margin calculation. Ensuring integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial statements; monitor and strengthen internal controls and related documentation; ensure policy compliance; manage, develop and mentor professional staff.

Essential Job Functions:
1.Manages all accounting aspects of Loans, Securities, Deposits, and Borrowings

a. Loan Accounting

i. Posting of Accrued Interest for Purchased Loans

ii. Managing Axiom Purchased loan module

iii. Reconcilement and Investigation

iv. TDR / OREO

v. Liquidations and gain/loss calculations

vi. ALLL reconciliation

vii. Delinquency reporting, non-accrual reporting

viii. Charge-off / Recovery monitoring / analysis

ix. Deferred cost / fee monitoring / analysis

b. Securities

i. Monthly P&I processing

ii. Reconciliations

iii. Trade Accounting / Delivery & Settlement

iv. Mark to Market Calculation and booking

c. Deposits & Borrowings

i. Reconcilement and analysis

ii. GL posting and settlement processes

d. Cash Balance Monitoring

i. Interest and Dividend postings

ii. Reconcilement and Analysis
2.Supports any other departmental function as needed
3.Perform other duties as directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


1.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Audit or Finance; MBA preferred
2.5+ years of experience in accounting industry either in public accounting or private sector
3.Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software packages desirable; Axiom preferred
4.Practical training or experience in an Audit or CPA firm beneficial
5.Some supervisory experience preferred
6.Good interpersonal and communication skills
7.Excellent organizing, time management, and leadership skills

CANDIDATE PROFILE Education and Experience * 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or related major; no work experience required. OR * 2-year degree from an accredited university in Finance and Accounting or related major; 2 years experience in finance and accounting or related professional area. CORE WORK ACTIVITIES Managing Work, Projects, and Policies * Coordinates and implements accounting work and projects as assigned. * Coordinates, implements and follows up on Accounting SOP audits for all areas of the property. * Complies with Federal and State laws applying to fraud and collection procedures. * Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc. * Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems. * Compiles, codes, categorizes, calculates, tabulates, audits, or verifies information or data. * Balances credit card ledgers. * Verifies contracts for groups and performs credit reference checks for direct billed groups if necessary. Maintaining Finance and Accounting Goals * Achieves and exceeds goals including performance goals, budget goals, team goals, etc. * Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work. * Submits reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines. * Ensures profits and losses are documented accurately. * Monitors all taxes that apply, ensuring that taxes are current, collected and/or accrued. * Maintains a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets. * Completes period end function each period. * Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
