At Sunrise, our The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN)is responsible for providing direct resident care and supervision of resident care work of non-licensed team members in the skilled nursing operations and other areas throughout the community as appropriate.

RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:
- Providing direct resident care- Supervision of resident care work of non-licensed team members in the skilled nursing operations and other areas throughout the community as appropriate- In accordance with federal, state and local standards and Sunrise Senior Living policies, you will be a leader in demonstrating the Sunrise Mission 'to champion quality of life for all senior'- Working closely with family members and consulting with community physician(s) to ensure resident' needs are being attended to in a personalized way

Qualifications:
- Graduate of approved college/school of nursing- Have a current state license as a Practical Nurse/Vocational Nurse- A minimum of one (1) year experience in long term care, assisted living, skilled nursing, hospital, and/or full service operations- Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practices, techniques and methods as applied to skilled nursing and resident care- Demonstration of knowledge of federal, state and local long term care regulations- Understanding of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) and the Care Plan Process- Ability to handle multiple priorities- Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication- Competent in organizational, time management skills- Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills- Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) with the ability to learn new applications

Application of the principles, theories and techniques of medical technology are required to produce test results, which aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values. Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent 1. Safety/Risk Management: Maintains an environment for employees, patients, medical staff, and visitors that promote safety consciousness in order to achieve a safe physical environment. Complies with Infection Control guidelines. Adheres to chemical hygiene policies. Follows confidentiality policy/procedure. Adheres to hospital wide and department specific safety regulations. Writes QI reports as necessary. Creates a safe and clean work environment. (10%) 2. Coordination of Services: coordinates activities, which allow quality work within a timely manner. Orders reagents, supplies and instrument consumables in a timely manner to insure continuous service. Coordinates services and resources with laboratory and non-laboratory personnel i.e., unlabeled/mislabeled specimens, supplies). Coordinates completion of training (i.e., blitz, new employee, POCT). Acts as a resource for laboratory and non-laboratory personnel. Stocks area for next shift and alerts appropriate personnel when reagents or supplies are low. Receives, labels and stores supplies accurately and in a timely manner. (10%) 3. Primary Aspects of the Job: exhibits organizational skills and a conscientiousness which allows for precise and accurate results in a timely manner. Demonstrates proper time management skills and priority setting. Performs routine and special tests on biological and environmental materials using automated equipment or manual methods following established laboratory and testing procedures. Performs tests accurately and cost effectively. Collects and/or assists with collection of patient specimens. Evaluates specimen acceptability. Prepares specimens for transportation to other clinical laboratories for testing. Verifies completion of work requested. Interprets and reports results by observation or calculations. Records results on worksheets or logs, calculates test findings required by each test and accurately reports results. Recognizes critical values and abnormal results and notifies appropriate personnel. Evaluates, correlates and interprets the clinical significance of test data. Identifies and insures complete resolution of problems related to test data. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance. Evaluates accuracy of test results and proper functioning of instruments and reagents through the use of established quality control program. Maintains proper quality control records. Documents corrective action for quality control program. Maintains laboratory instruments by use of preventative maintenance procedures. Performs troubleshooting on equipment and supplies. Creates and utilizes work-aid documents correctly and in a timely manner (i.e., pending logs, worksheets, QC logs, etc.). Participates in method evaluation and/or research and development. Acts as a resource for a/an instrument, procedure and/or specialty area as assigned. Researches and develops new procedures. Reviews and revises technical and/or operational procedures annually. (45%) 4. Communication Management: maintains good quality relations between staff, patients, physicians and other departments to promote a good working environment. Handles inquiries regarding procedures, test results and their interpretation. Communicates test results appropriately, accurately and in a timely manner and documents communication as required. Remains current with departmental meeting minutes and other required reading. Educates MT/MLT students (didactic). Trains co-workers and non-laboratory personnel. (25%) 5. Technology: Maintains equipment in order to provide a continuous level of quality in test results. Reports instrument malfunctions and performs minor repairs. Calls service representative or technical hot line as necessary. Maintains a working knowledge of laboratory computer functions to insure accurate data management. Maintains a working knowledge of the hospital computer functions to include charges and credits, if applicable. Maintains a working knowledge of personal computer, if applicable. Attends in-service training on new equipment and procedures (i.e., WinNet). Remains current in Laboratory developments though participation in continuing education and self-study (15 hours per year). Performs other work duties as assigned. (10%) Total 100% Education Bachelor's Degree Clinical Lab Science with Medical Technologist Certification required.Certification requiring educational maintenance by the certifying agency must be kept current and valid. Experience Must meet all applicable required state and federal standards to perform assigned testing. The assessment, care and treatment provided by the Laboratory will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the patient. The Laboratory divisions are competent to provide patient care to neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Working Conditions Employee is required to sit, stand and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry medium (50 lbs.) occasionally and light (20 lbs.) frequently. Employee is required to bend, squat, reach forward, reach overhead, lift floor to waist and lift waist to overhead occasionally. Employee is required to perform repetitive action, including simple grasping, pushing/pulling and fine manipulation. For repetitive movement, employee is required to use foot controls with one foot, one or two-handed action for fine manipulation. Employee is allowed to move about freely or sit at will when performing job duties. Employee is continuously exposed to dust, noise, and CRT terminal work. Employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens. (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%) The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties. Job Relationships: Member of a comprehensive healthcare team including other healthcare providers, the patient, the patient's family and significant others. Takes direction from: Supervisor, Manager, Director of Laboratory, Medical Director, Pathologist Provides direction to: Medical Technologist I, Medical Lab Technician, Technical Assistant Supervised by: Supervisor, Manager neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
