The Retail Distribution Center- Transportation Safety Compliance Specialist works directly with the delivery driver and support staff while they are performing in a safety sensitive position such as driving a delivery truck or service van. This position will answer questions from staff, senior management and drivers regarding compliance with hours of service, driver credentials and other safety and compliance-related issues. The Retail DC Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the driver is following all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements by maintaining the proper documentation for their Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals, DOT annual reviews, driver's license and random drug testing when applicable. The Retail DC Safety Compliance Specialist will work with the Senior Safety Compliance Manager in the management of the Driver Qualification System and the monitoring of driving performance systems.
Responsibilities:
Create, monitor, audit and update driver qualification files for compliance according to company, state and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations as it pertains to the drivers.
Oversee all drug and alcohol screening processes ( pre, clearinghouse, random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion )
Maintain all driver employee files
Maintain all driver accident incidents to include investigations, monitoring and filing of reports
Train, monitor and retrain drivers on Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, on-board computers and e-Driver Log operations, roadside inspections and Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR), driver trip report as well as back-up paper log book procedures.
Audit drivers for proper application of e-Driver log procedures and make authorized corrections as necessary.
Run, audit, document and make recommendations to management regarding routine and non-routine safety compliance reports.
Qualifications:
Associates Degree in Business, Logistics or related field, Required
2 years' experience in a transportation administrative role, Required
Certified Safety Supervisor or ability to obtain within 1 year, Recommended
Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDL), Preferred
Completion of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Compliance Course
Basic Understanding FMSCA and DOT Regulations
Basic understanding of OSHA principals and regulations
Ability to handle stressful, emotional and conflicting situations
Strong sense of consistency, fairness and discipline
Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement
Handle multiple projects simultaneously within established time constraints
Respond professionally in situations with difficult employee/vendor/customer issues or inquiries
