ON Semiconductor's South Portland Wafer Fab is looking for Equipment Techs with 2 years' experience in the semiconductor industry, who are interested in working night shift! Our Equipment Maintenance Technicians are responsible for multiple activities in support of manufacturing. This position specifically will support the maintenance of Semiconductor Silicone Carbide and Silicon Epitaxial Equipment, processes and measurement tools.

This position requires the individual to possess the ability and experience needed to effectively troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance procedures on this highly specialized equipment.

The Successful Candidate Will Have the Opportunity to

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for a variety of electromechanical and electro-pneumatic systems needed in the SiC Epi process, including but not limited to: Servo Motors and Controllers, Stepper Motors and Controllers, AC Motors and Controllers, DC Motors and Controllers, Solenoid Valves, Gate Valves, High Vacuum Isolation Valves, and Pneumatic Logic Circuits.

  • Plan and organize personal workflow to ensure completion in a timely matter so as to minimize loss of tool availability to manufacturing.

  • Collaborate with Operators and Engineers to identify problems and their solutions

  • Work in a clean room environment which requires the wearing of a smock, hood, booties, latex/nitrile gloves, and safety glasses.

  • Learn and apply required safety measures and protocol as required in a fast-paced, highly-controlled, industrial environment where chemicals, toxic gas, high voltage, and kinetic energy hazards exist.

  • Wear an airline respirator and occasionally use other PPE, including aprons, gauntlets, and full face masks.

  • Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience being a maintenance technician in the semiconductor industry required. Experience working directly with Silicon Carbide and Silicon Epitaxial Equipment preferred.

  • An Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technologies or Electromechanical Technologies or Military Equivalent, or other relevant equipment maintenance education/experience.

  • An interest in working on night shift, from 6pm-6am, 3 nights on/3 nights off.

  • The ability to stand for 75% of shift.

  • The flexibility to work outside of normal schedule, cross train, (learn more than one job or operation) and multi-task as needed.

Performance Objectives: In this position you will have the opportunity to: * Work with the SiC R&D team to develop Epitaxy processes on MOCVD reactors and Characterization on various metrology tools for existing and new products. This will include improving existing processes and developing new processes and new characterization techniques. * Conduct independent research, evaluations of new and upcoming tools, techniques and processes to drive the state of the art SiC technology forward. This will also involve authoring publications to journals and conferences, as well as generating IP for the company. * Interact with the entire worldwide SiC R&D team, production and integration team to solve complex problems with development, proliferation, scaling and mass-production of SiC products. * Support worldwide 24x7 production of SiC Epitaxy and fabrication for various device families. Requirements: * PhD or Master's degree (with 2 years of applicable hands on experience) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science or related field is required * Exposure to MOCVD Epitaxy and characterization or Wide-Bandgap technologies like Silicon Carbide (SiC) or Gallium Nitride (GaN) * Experience with crystal orientations and defect analysis with X-ray techniques highly desired Highly Preferred Skills: * PhD with 5 years of applicable hands on experience in Silicon Carbide epitaxy and characterization. * Familiarity and hands-on experience of MOCVD reactors hardware, software and process development is highly preferred. Prior experience of running Commercial MOCVD reactor is an added bonus. * Technical knowledge and hands-on experience in the various Compound Semiconductor characterization techniques like FTIR, CV, PL, X-Ray as well as the use of such techniques on both Substrates and Epitaxy is desired. * Demonstrated ability to do independent research by publishing patents, journals, white papers etc. * Experience in semiconductor manufacturing epitaxy with familiarity with design of experiment (DOE), statistical process control (SPC), methodical data analysis for process performance improvement and process troubleshooting is ideal. * Adept with the use of statistical data processing programs like EXCEL, JMP, etc * Good verbal, written and personal communication skills including making technical reports and presentations to both smaller focused peer groups and large audiences. * Willingness to work supporting of 24x7 fab manufacturing that additional off-hours on-call support may be required.
