Purpose of the job

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the NGC & SPC Supervisor is the support of the paper manufacturing areas for leading team safety, team quality, crew, and equipment productivity, managing crew training, controlling costs, and building annual budgets. Supervisor will use problem solving skills to ensure safety of all personnel and quality enhancements measured by rework reductions. Problem solving to address immediate equipment issues, improve equipment reliability, with this role's primary focus in electrical, instrument and control teams/systems.

Main responsibility areas

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Establishes/maintains a safe department workplace and creates practices to accomplish yearly safety goals

  • Provide short and long-term direction and objectives assigned to Mechanical and E&I maintenance staff and contractors.

  • Hire, train, develop, and motivate Mechanical and E&I maintenance staff to achieve maximum productivity through appropriate skills training and development of staff; ensures quality work performance at all levels.

  • Complies with standard procedures for reporting time distribution to work orders and payroll and transmittal of work orders and other documents and information as required. Prepares and conducts performance reviews as well as disciplinary action in accordance with Ahlstrom policy.

Communicate with Operators, Maintenance Craftsmen, management teams, finance and Executives

Communicate with external customers, vendors, contractors, etc.

Experience and education

(minimum level of knowledge and skills to fulfill one's responsibilities)

Work experience

  • Five or more years working in a manufacturing environment. Paper industry experience preferred.

  • Strong Mechanical and Electrical Technical Knowledge.

  • Five or more years supervising a team of individuals.

  • Experience in SAP preferred.

Formal education

High School Diploma or GED

Other Required Attributes

  • Ability to work additional hours during the week, on weekends, or outside of regular office hours may be required.

  • The ability to work in a normal office environment to include: sitting or standing for long periods of time, operating various standard office equipment, carrying paper documents/files, reaching and bending, speaking on the telephone,

  • Ability to work for extended times in a pulp mill or paper mill environment, safely walk through our manufacturing plants and rough outdoor terrain, and wearing required personal protection gear (i.e. hand, hearing, breathing, head and foot protection).

  • This job requires a fair amount of travel both local and non-local. The candidate must be able to drive for multiple hours in a day and expect to begin travel before and after normal work hours to allow for a full day of participation at the destination.
