The Morehead State Public Radio is accepting applications for a part-time position as a News Reporter. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2024.

Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a wide range of outdoor recreation activities.

Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. RESPONSIBILITIES: The New Reporter will gather, write and edit news stories for broadcasts.

Conduct and record interviews, edit and produce audio for broadcasts. Serves as anchor or co-anchor for daily newscasts and sportscasts. Serves as anchor or co-anchor for Midday News and/or Mountain Edition.

Produces long-form reports and features for broadcast. Archives news stories to comply with federal guidelines. Regularly maintains the office environment by organizing and filing paperwork, equipment and supplies.

Serves as back-up announcer and audio engineer as needed. Participates in station-related activities (open houses, staff meetings, remote broadcasts, fundraisers). Complies with Morehead State University (MSU), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and other local, state and/or national regulations. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the News Director.

REQUIREMENTS: Basic knowledge of computers for word processing, data management and digital editing.

Experience (or interest in learning) in interviewing and story writing. Must be well-organized, able to work well under pressure because of daily deadlines and possess a clear and pleasant speaking style. Must possess good written and oral skills.

Must be able to operate a variety of studio and remote audio equipment. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Maintain a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements Working Conditions

Modern equipment, supportive staff, adequate resources and good office accommodations are available. Newsroom and audio production facilities are shared with other personnel, which sometimes limits production time.

Last minute news stories and on-air deadlines often create added pressures. The individual may be asked to be listed as "on-call" for emergency and holiday service. Exposure to extreme weather may occur in gathering on-site news stories.

Early morning, late evening and weekend hours may be required. The individual interacts with local and/or regional news sources, state officials, the general public and other external entities.
